alahazrat kanz translation criticised (3:159)

Can Sh. Abu Hasan also look into the claims of Deobandis about this verse
وَلَوْ كُنْتَ فَظًّا غَلِيظَ الْقَلْبِ لَانْفَضُّوا مِنْ حَوْلِكَ ۖ

Alahazrat Translation: Then, it is of the mercy of Allah that O beloved! You became gentle for them and if you had been hot headed, hard hearted, then they certainly would have dispersed from your circle, so pardon them and intercede for them and consult them in the affairs; and when you have made up your mind for any thing, then put your trust in Allah. Undoubtedly the trustful are dear to Allah.

Aisha Bewley: It is a mercy from Allah that you were gentle with them. If you had been rough or hard of heart, they would have scattered from around you. So pardon them and ask forgiveness for them, and consult with them about the matter. Then when you have reached a firm decision, put your trust in Allah. Allah loves those who put their trust in Him.

[ Chapter 3 verse 159 ]

actually, whoever translated it made a mistake. attributing it to alahazrat is incorrect. here is what alahazrat said:

kanz s3v159.jpg

tund-mizaj is the meaning of faDH'DH; الفظ

tund-mizaj means, severe, stern, impetuous, fierce, harsh, not cordial, rude.
it is also used to describe those who have a nasty temper. [which i think was the translator's objective]

faZZ means rude, harsh, uncivil, churlish, discourteous, impolite, rough.

according to mufassirin:
faZZ means in this context, one 'harsh in speech' [ibn kathir]

faZZ: one of bad character سيئ الخلق [jalalayn] idiomatically this refers to a nasty temper rather than other traits.

faZZ: one of repulsive manners كريه الخلق according to raghib [shawkani in fat'h al qadir]

faZZ: is someone who is rude, ill-mannered and harsh الغليظ الجافي [qurtubi]

faZZ: that is harsh in speech [fayruzabadi]

faZZ: harsh in speech, ill-mannered, impatient [baghawi]

faZZ: ill-mannered, boorish, rude [bayDawi]

Allah ta'ala knows best.

ala hazrat's translation

[Aale I`mran 3:159] So what a great mercy it is from Allah that you (O dear Prophet Mohammed - peace and blessings be upon him), are lenient towards them; and if you had been stern and hardhearted they would have certainly been uneasy in your company; so forgive them and intercede for them and consult with them in the conduct of affairs; and when you decide upon something, rely upon Allah; indeed Allah loves those who trust (Him).

btw, if any devbandi objects to this translation, just share with them translations of their own elders who use the same or similar words as alahazrat has used - apart from the fact that alahazrat's translation predates all of them.
