If mother is Sayyid

If a child's mother is Sayyidah but not the father - is the child considered Sayyid?

The child will not be considered as a Sayyid because the lineage carries on from the father.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

it is a sharf (an honor); but the lineage will not change; the child will not be considered a Sayyid.
