Salam brother. I came across this event some days ago. I researched into the Masjid, the attendees as well as the location. It is mainly dominated with followers of Hamza Yusuf, Zaytuna and heavily influenced by Deobandi’s.
I really did want Shaykh Saqib to attend this event, because whenever he is invited to sullah kulli gatherings, it makes me happy as he chooses the difficult path of attending the event, but ensuring he refutes them! This was made apparent during the ‘Sufi conference’, where he openly refuted Dr Tahir, perennialist so called Chishti’s and many other Fitna’s. He doesn’t try to keep all parties happy by keeping silent and not attending.
The Muslims belonging to the east bay area of San Francisco are profoundly rich and are completely influenced by Zaytuna and Dr Samir al Nass. Who is well known as a Deobandi supporter and promoter, a strong sullah kulli; Sadly, many ‘Sunni lions’ of Ahlus Sunnah, promote Dr Samir al Nass, openly promoting his Tajweed lessons on their Facebook, thereby promoting not only Deobandi’s but perennialists. There are also examples of the same Sunni lions promoting sullah kulli habaib, Ibrahim Osi-Efa and posting pictures on Facebook with Tafzili Arab scholars.
I don’t know why Shaykh Saqib is not attending (as mentioned by the committee of the hosting Masjid), I wish he did, it would’ve been vital. Not only would he have refuted perennialists and sullah kullis but his voice would have been a much needed one in a region surrounded with sullah kulli’s, deobandi’s and deobandi promoters.
According to his Facebook, he is currently in LA and will be travelling to San Francisco, Dallas and Chicago thereafter.
I contacted the MCC- Muslim community centre, East Bay - San Francisco and it is confirmed that he is not attending.
