Is this verified? I heard that it's untrue.
This news has been carried on multiple news outlets. Some have even published the video of the heinous act. You can google to see how widely this news has been circulated. There is even a youtube lecture by Mufti Ashraf Jalali sb on this news topic. It has been further confirmed by Syrian sources here.

I've also received reports about this and when I posted the same to a (sunni) group, brothers in there posted some opposing statements that this is wahabi propaganda and claimed that it was fake news. I asked because of this.
How would it be wahabi propaganda?! Just because they are shia? If anything Wahabis would consider this act appropriate in accordance to their Usul.

Back in 2012 ISIS destroyed and exhumed and the body of Sidi Ahmad Zurruq رحمة الله عليه to an unknown location.
And In 2015 the Syrian Al Qaida rebels blew up Imam Nawawi رحمة الله عليه‘s mazar.
And when you engage with such wahabis and salafis , they celebrate the fact that now these places can’t be “venerated,” and by veneration they injudiciously mean shirk and kufr.
