I have heard the same thing from Dr Israr Ahmed, leader of the Movement Tanzeeme Islami in Pakistan
 
though it may sound harsh I found this one to be one of the things where the author went way overboard - particularly due to the command with which the author writes.

Sidi the topic is different, it is about the special position of Pakistan in the Islamic world, to which many scholars have commented on such as Dr Israr Ahmed in Pakistan.


The Islamic Country called Pakistan and its Muslim Pakistanis seem to be everywhere on the scene of current affairs relevant to the Islamic dunya, be it nuclear, terrorism, sufism, wahabism, even food, Pakistani (and some Indian food) especially is conquering many areas in North America and the Middle East

Why is Pakistan so important to the present situation in the Islamic World, that a large proportion of things and links come to this country and not, say, to Azerbaijan?

Definitely if Pakistan is an entity then there is a place special to it in the scheme of things. and so has any other place like Azerbaijan.
