note-khwani

a narration by Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Masood radi Allahu 3anhu that towards the end of times a group of people will hold poetry dearer than the Quran
i see the point shaykh asrar is making and don’t entirely disagree, but i believe the narration fits better with worldly or impermissible songs—those involving poetry about women and desire, worldly pleasures, or nationalism—which are far more widespread than problematic styles of naat khwani.

people immersed in such songs are often far from the deen or from engaging with the qur'an and salah. they can listen to music for hours but feel no inclination toward the qur'an, simply due to a lack of love for the deen.

in contrast, those involved in impermissible naat khwani often still love the qur'an, many perform salah, and their errors usually stem from ignorance rather than intentional disregard.

That narration aptly applies to pakistanis a lot of whom are supposedly more Barelwi than Imam Ahmad Raza himself
while i don’t deny that many pakistanis engage in such naat khwani, it seems unfair to single out only pakistan when the same issue is equally common in india.

in fact, you yourself have shared a video of a mehfil in india where a mawlana rebuked the naat khwan and the singers reacted angrily.
