I've always thought something like
https://www.skillshare.com/ could be good for Islamic teaching online.
You lose the personal touch of actually being taught by a scholar or being in the company of one, but I do think it's a good alternative for online learning.
For example, take Bahar e Shariat. A scholar goes through the first volume and and creates videos similar to Khan Academy and teaches as though they would a real class.
There are then forums under each video where only people verified by the teacher and the teacher themself can respond to students' questions regarding the content.
At the end of each course, there is a mini assessment or perhaps even an actual assessment with a verified person on the other end, after which you get a badge to say you have completed it.
For more advanced books, you need to pass assessments / pre-entry tests to show that you are able to undertake the course and to avoid students just watching a course that is too advanced for them and thinking they have completed said course.
