:s1:
Sidi Aqdas, the hadith you have quoted about Hazrat Ali being called 'akhi e Rasul' by the people of Yemen was narrated also in a speech I heard by the peerless Sayyid Irfan Shah. He said that Imam Ali said to the Yemenis that although the Blessed Habib صلى الله عليه وسلم did called me his 'akhi' I myself do not consider myself like him, rather I say, (and Hazrat Ali's words are): Ana 'abeedum min 'ibaadi Muhammad! - I am a slave of the slaves of the Prophet!
Subhan Allah! Ya 'Ali madad! This saying of Mawla Ali's is a slap in the face of such people like Ismail Dehlavi who wrote that we should only respect the Prophet as much as we respect an elder brother. Naudhubillah!
This saying shows that even the one who perhaps could have claimed some similarity [mimathalat] to the Prophet (same grandfather, same blood, 'baab al 'ilm, son-in-law, cousin etc.) rather thought of himself as a mere slave!
I thank Allah that he saved my Iman via the speeches of Sayyid 'Irfan Shah sahib when I was in danger of falling victim to modernist ideas and becoming soft on heretics.
