Salam,
I pay for youtube premium to avoid the adverts - the subscription price (for the family plan) keeps getting hiked.

Apparently, it's youtube is more affordable in India but you must have an indian bank account to activate it. Are there any brothers who can help in this regard? Happy to pay extra for the inconvenience!
 
Try this hack. This used to work and still seems to.

Put a hyphen between "t" and "u" and try refreshing the link twice or thrice until it works.


For example, I randomly chose this youtube video.

ttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFjscHzC6Kc

Then I put a hyphen between "t" and "u".
https://www.yout-ube.com/watch?v=zFjscHzC6Kc

... and tried refreshing the link twice (first time the video is shown as unavailable, on second try it works) and converts to the following link:

https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/em...6Kc&autoplay=1&iv_load_policy=3&loop=1&start=

what are your specific requirements that compel you to throw money at pro-genocide corporate entities?

Why are the solutions mentioned in this post not good enough for you? I have updated the post and added another with new information for YT.

Note that I have been browsing the internet completely ad-free for the past 2+ years - to the extent that I don't even know what are the latest products and brands out there. And I am a heavy internet user.

@sherkhan please check the thread linked above for less cumbersome ways of achieving the same.
 
I did the review the thread before asking but in my case it will not work for me as I am using Echo show devices/smart TV's.

Also it's not correct to say I am "throwing money", especially as the point of the thread is to slash the cost of subscription!

yes - they made some changes which makes it harder to intercept ads but uBlock has developed a newer version which is working for me. Whatever youtube videos I have watched so far using the Brave Browser- I haven't had to watch a single ad. However, this needs further confirmation as I rarely access YT through browsers.

But you have all the firefox based browsers - especially waterfox - which has recently rolled out it's own privacy respecting search engine.

And if you are on Windows or Android, you have the DuckDuckGo browser with its own in-built video player which blocks all ads by default.

Take a look at GrayJay. I don't know if Echo Show will work with these - but it might work because it supports the DASH protocol.

How do I cast to a TV or desktop?
The recommended way to cast is to use the FCast Receiver app. This app works on Android, Android TV, MacOS, Windows and Linux. It can be downloaded from the Google Play Store or from here https://fcast.org/. We also support casting to ChromeCast. ChromeCast at the moment is still being improved and it requires proxying streams by your phone (unlike FCast) for any content that has separate video and audio streams. Lastly, we support AirPlay. However, AirPlay does not support the DASH protocol so we do not support playing content with separated video and audio streams to AirPlay devices.

sorry - don't take my comment too seriously - if there is a genuine need it can't be helped.

Ddg App Tracking Protection doesn’t flag it but that only covers known trackers, it doesn't guarantee the app is clean. If you're looking for something safer newpipe or libretube is way to go.
