he was not a disciple of ala hazrat alaihi rahmah, and i really doubt that he ever saw ala hazrat for several reasons:
  • i met him a couple of times at milad gatherings about five years ago. at that time, he was claimed to be 120 years old, and now just five years later, he was said to be 138.
  • he initially said he had witnessed a karamah of ala hazrat, when ala hazrat realized that one of the palanquin (palki) carriers was a sayyid, and later he claimed to be a disciple.
  • his son, who used to bring him to gatherings, is in his 30s.
  • he never showed up when huzur taajush shariah, shah turab al haq qadri, and other senior scholars were alive.
  • in one milad gathering that I attended, he objected to a couplet from huzur mufti e azam hind’s na’at, saying it was against adab, and the rizvis there looked at each other in surprise.
  • i was told that when he visited bareilly sharif during ala hazrat’s urs, some ulama asked him questions, and he could not satisfy them.
  • a brother told me that his passport listed his age in the 70s.
  • actually, the memon community promoted him as a disciple of ala hazrat, but ala hazrat’s descendants in pakistan did not accept this.
  • i was also told that no major ulama attended his funeral because they did not believe he had seen ala hazrat rahimahullah.
  • if he were really 138 years old, he would probably be known as one of the oldest men alive, but he was never registered anywhere.

i am not saying he was not a sayyid, and if he was really over 120, it is possible he saw ala hazrat, but he was definitely not his disciple.

I think the oldest person in recent history was 122 years old. Not to say someone can't be older but it seems doubtful. Additionally, maybe the scholarly class is different but the older people from the subcontinent that I know don't know how old they are and just make a guess. Although a guess of 138 seems mental

was 122 years old
can't say for special cases of karaamaat or back home where not everyone would be eager to get on world records or tv and so on. i heard some years back regarding a lady waliyyah in Hadramout in Yemen who was 150 yrs old apparently. can be possible.

in any case, i too came across some bizarre claims by some memon brothers on a whatsapp group during the covid lockdown regarding this person as a living karamat of Ala Hazrat, don't remember the numbers from then but it was 100+. funny thing is after that round of whatsapp forward, this thread is the second time i have heard of him. never heard of him or about him from major Sunni ulama or from anyone in Bareilly. Allah knows best.

also i've seen in the last many years compared to when we were kids, many more Mawlids have a ziyarah of the Blessed Beard - Asrar Rashid even had a talk on it, on how to identify authenticity. again Allah knows best.
