Who is your favourite qari of those alive today?

I like Qari Sadaqat Ali and, from the Arabs, Ahmad al Ajami. He made me cry once with beauty/emotion of his recitation. It was in a Ramadan a few years ago. I had a tape of him and was playing it and during his recitation he began to sob and weep--it made me weep too!

Qari Sadaqat I've heard live many times now. Great breath control.
Which other qaris are out there worth listening to?

yes i always wondered why an egyptian qari would be surnamed al-ajami but imagine it was because his ancestors must have come from iran and hence the name. i am only thinking out aloud here.

who is qari gibril? and clips of him?

1) qari syed sadaqat ali
2) qari saad sultani
3) qari abdal basit abdas samad
4) qari karamat ali naeemi

qari amir khan (currently residing in oslo), former recitation-correctionist of qari sadaqat ali, is among the greatest qurra

When it comes to Qurra, the arabs take it hands down.

The best quraa to pray behind are Mishari Rashed Al Afasy and Muhammed Jibril. Also the recitation of Surah Qiyamah by Mishari Rashed's student, Qari Fahd al Kandari is ABSOLUTELY Breath taking. The clip is on youtube.

From the classics definitely Abdul Basit Abdul Samad was the greatest!

Afasy is horrible and so is Jibril. I listened to Jibril's brother as well. He too is horrible.

Though I agree with the arabs taking hands down, but they are the local ones.

If you want qira`at, see Qari Saad Sultani. He is a proper Sunni Sahihul Aqida qari and is a very good qari.

Afasy is horrible? That is extremely disrespectful. I would love to hear you read surah fatiha properly.

He has ijaaza in the 7 qira'at. The guy is a tajweed machine and his voice and more importantly his pronounciation of the makharijul huroof is better then anyone from the subcontinent. can't even compare!!

Jibril is another tajweed master. And he is also an extremely humble and ascetic person. One of my tajweed teachers who is also an egyptian, happened to be a good family friend of Sh. Muhammed Jebril.

Muhammidiyya's account closed?

as-salam alaikum,

why has my 'muhammadiyya' account been closed? I've contacted owners of this site but still after approx 2 weeks no reply? Have I done something unwittingly that disabled things?

shaikh sudais and shaikh mahir al muiqaly

I would say that Sudais or any of the Wahhabis and/or Deobandis are incompetent when it comes to qira`at.

Although i am not a big fan of Sudais, your statement is absurd. What does the science of tajweed or qira'a have anything to do with him being a wahabi? He still recites in the qira'ah of Hafs An Aasim Rawayati Shatibiyah..which is one of the valid qira'aat and the most popular.

My statement:

Who: SUDAIS, DEOBANDIS, WAHHABIS
What: Are bad at qirat
Why: See Sidi Abu Hasan Ridawi's post:

he must be reciting the longest verse in qur'an, then.

anyway, he is very poor in his recitation - has no control of the voice, does not bother about the stops nor does he care for the finer points of gunnah or madd or anything. recites like any common man [as opposed to an arab who is supposed to be trained in tajwid] reading an ordinary book.

is it just me or does anybody else have the feeling that he is in a tearing hurry and has to catch a plane or something? needless to say, he irritates me.

if anybody wants to follow tajwid - stick to shaykh abdul basit or shaykh husary; the former is correct to a fault even in his distinction of minor points such as madds muttasil and munfasil [5 and 3]. his stops [wuquf] are immaculate and i am sure nobody will complain about his voice.

Allah taala knows best.

----------------------------------------------------
w'al akhdhu bi't tajwidi hatmun lazim
man lam yujawwidi'l qur'ana aathim

it is mandatory and necessary to hold to tajwid
one who recites qur'an without tajwid is a sinner

--
ali al qari says: sayyiduna ali karramallah wajhah said concerning the verse 'wa rattili'l qur'ana tartila' / and recite the qur'an tranquil: 'huwa tajwid al-Huruf wa ma'arifatu'l wuquf' / to pronounce the letters properly and to know where to stop well.

[to be fair, al-qari notes that it is not wajib to know the stops but anyhow..]

I already said i am not a fan of Sudais or some of the other Saudi recitors. But to say their lack of perfection in Tajweed is because they are wahabi is absurd. His lack of perfection is more to do with him trying too much to beautify his voice and not concentrate on the finer points of tajweed.

The youtube video you posted has nothing to do about Sudais...it is about deobandis. Deobandis and sudais are worlds apart. Sudais has no problems in his makharijul huroof or his pronounciation of letters. He is an arab for heavens sake.

One of my favourite qari is Qari Barakatullah Saleem of Afghanistan. Mashallah!! Very nice voice and amazing tajweed.

whatever their recitation or voice is like; we should not listen to it due to their innovative beliefs.

an innovator once came to one of the salaf and wanted to recite the qur'an before him. the shaykh refused. the innovator said, i only want to recite the qur'an, nothing more. the shaykh still refused.

when the innovator went, the shaykhs disciples asked why. he said that maybe due to his good recitation, i would have developed a soft spot in my heart for him and begin to like him.

hence, even if it's for recitation, do not listen to wahabis/deobandis/shias or any other non-sunni.
