alaHazrat wrote a monograph on kissing the thumbnails during iqamah. he ends the monograph by quoting imam ibn Hajar makki from his jauhar munazzam (fasl awwal, p.12):

تعظيم النبى صلى اﷲ تعالٰى عليه وسلم بجميع انواع التعظيم التى ليس فيها مشاركة اﷲ تعالٰى فى الالوهية امر مستحسن عند من نور اﷲ ابصارهم​

Those who have been granted light in their eyes consider all forms of respect for RasulAllah sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam to be good acts. They do
not consider any part of these acts to be associating partners with Allah
​

It's a great loss that most fellow Muslims in Malaysia have not practiced this act for a long time.
