CricInfo's caption says it all: And he gets a big standing ovation; each Zimbabwe player jogs over to shake his hand. And as he raises his bat, his Pakistan side all come down to greet their captain who, by now, is in tears. He takes his helmet off, acknowledges the crowd while wiping the tears dry. And 15 years ago today, Inzamam scored 60 off 37 balls to help Pakistan win the World Cup semi-final against New Zealand.

-Farewell Inzi bhai! We'll always love you! Allah aap ko salaamat rakhe aur apne Habib ki ziyarat naseeb farmaaye! ameen! He is a very pious Sunni Muslim, his father is a Pir and the gaddinasheen (custodian-heir)of a famous shrine in Multan and his family have many murids.
He wears a huge taweez round his neck and blows on it before the game and rubs his hands on his body--pure sunni style!

I have a friend, a dear one, whose Uncle was class mate with Inzimam ul Haq in Multan al-Shareef as he tells me. Inzimam was enthusiastic about this game cricket since his early days

the greatest pakistani batsman of all time. and a devout muslim which is also unheard of for pakistani cricketers. may allah bless him and give him the strength to continue.

Yeah I heard he went on jamaat i india with shahid afridi, saeed anwar and Muhammad yusuf. If he is with them its sad, great cricketer though. I'm a convert of Irish parents so i'm not gonna mention anything to do with the Ireland - pakistan game ;-) :-) ahem ahem...don't wanna be barred from the forum.

Inzamam and most of the Pakistani team have sadly been caught up in tableeghi jamaat web. So the man from the city of saints (i.e. Multan) and the son of gaddinasheen is not as sunni as you may imagine.

When Pakistan team landed in New Delhi for recently held Champions trophy, only Younus Khan, Imran Farhat and couple of other cricketers (probably Hasan Raza and Umar Gul, if my memory holds right) visited the blessed dargah of Shaikh Nizamuddin Auliya (rahmatullah alaihi). That too me is an easy way of separating Sunnis and tableeghis in the Pakistan cricket team.

yes i have heard that he has been influenced by saeed anwar and the other TJs but I believe it is probably only a phase insha Allah since his being from a pure Sunni household is a fact. May Allah protect him from the TJ curse. That is why it is important to choose who you socialise with carefully. Insha Allah the duas of his father and his sunni background will prevail.

15 years? subhanAllah.... how time flies. i remember that world cup like it was yesterday...

the pak team will miss him dearly. he has been a rock.
