From Fatawa Ridawiyyah, vol.21, p.138-139
It is in Tariqa Muhammadiya and its commentary Hadiqa Nadiya that:
One of the evils of the hand is writing words or phrases which are Haram to speak. For example, criticisable poetry, coarse conversation, swears and other such anecdotes that consist of such aspects. Any kind of writing that promotes the beliefs of any sect that has strayed has to be censured because like the physical tongue that speaks, writing is also a tongue [through which ideas are portrayed]. Hence, writing is the same as speaking, nay, it is even more dangerous than speech as the words spoken by the tongue are lost in the environment. [al-Hadiqa al-Nadiya Sharh Tariqat al-Muhammadiya, vol.2, p.443]
If people who write such words do not repent, then socialising with them is impermissible and sitting with them Haram. Marrying them is even worse. Allah says:
If Shaytan makes you forget [from sitting in the wrong presence] then when you remember, do not sit with the Zalimeen. [6:68]
Fatawa are dictated in this humble person’s [Ahmad Raza] presence. I asked the copyist not to write the accursed words. The copyist said that the intention of the questioner is to publish the fatwa. I asked the copyist to omit the accursed passages and leave a gap of a few lines in their place and put dots in so that the eyes of the Muslims are saved from seeing these filthy words. Allah is the greatest protector and He is the most merciful.
