Sadr al-Afadil, the teacher of teachers in the last century, mawlana muhammad nayimuddin muradaabadi is a jurist, scholar, mufti, quranic exegete and an educator. he was also an excellent poet; a collection of his poems is named as 'riyaz e nayeem' / the 'garden of nayeem' or the 'garden of comfort.'

ujDey huwey diyār ko ársh e barīN banayeN to

kushta e ishq sayyidaa, aap key naam par marey
jalwah inheN dikhāyiye aap agar jilaayeN to

dard o alam key mubtalaa, jin ki kahiN na ho dawaa

na-umeedi hai kaam kaafir kaa
ya’s woh ruu siyaah kartey haiN


aap key gham meiN jaan dee ham ney
aap ko hum gawaah kartey haiN


un ke husn e jameel kee tawseef
anjum o mihr o maah kartey haiN


haal e dil unsey kyaa kahey koyee
sun ke woh waah waah kartey haiN


husn e naa-paayedaar par yeh ghuruur
but sitam bey-panaah kartey haiN


ishq jo kartey hain paree-ruu sey
naamah apnaa siyaah kartey haiN


husn e faani bhi husn hai koyee
umr ko kyuN tabaah kartey haiN


husn e baatil pey naaz aur ghamzah
kyuN yeh naamah siyaah kartey haiN


aankh rakhtey haiN jo, nayimuddin

teri sawlat sey terey a’adaa meiN

teri talwaar ka jahaaN meiN hai
aaj tak ghalghalaa imām ĥusayn

kaTey har waar meiN parey ke parey
ro diye ashqiyaa imām ĥusayn

jalwah afroz karbalah meiN huwey
sayyid e anbiyaa, imām ĥusayn [that is sayyid e anbiya AY imām ĥusayn]

aap ko daayimi hayaat milee
ay Imām e hudaa imām ĥusayn

sab jahaN meiN tumhara qabzaa hai
faatih e karbalaa imām ĥusayn

saari khilqat meiN ho gaye ruswaa
tere aadaa shahaa! imām ĥusayn

saarey aalam ke mominoN ke liye
rab sey keeje duaa imām ĥusayn

aap sey rakhtey haiN umeed e karam
ranj key mubtalaa, imām ĥusayn [again, ranj key mubtalaa ummeed rakhtey haiN AY imām ĥusayn]

is nayeem e gunaah gaar pey lutf
ay shah e asfiyaa imām ĥusayn

disclaimer: some folk may think/claim that i am posting this just to ward off my 'recent behavior' that shows 'love' for yazid. the accusation that i love yazid is utterly false and an ugly slander. i don't deem it necessary clarify this; and do not care a bit for their unjust comments. we have always extolled and admired the bravery and sacrifice of imam husayn. i am not bothered with convincing anybody of my belief and this post is nothing to 'clarify' my position. it is as it has always been. wa billahi't tawfiq.

ay ibn e sa’ad rayy ki hukumat to kya milī
zulm o jafa ki jald hi tujh ko sazaa milī

ay shimr e naabakaar, shahīdoN key khuun sey
kaysī sazā tujhe abhi ay naasazā milī

ay tishna gaane khuun e jawānān e ahl e bayt
dekhā ? key tum ko zulm ki kaysī saza milī

kuttoN ki taraH lāsheN tumhārī saDā kiye
ghūDī pey gor ko bhi tumhārī na jā milī

ruswāy e khalq ho gaye barbād ho gaye
mardūdo tum ko zillat e har do sarā milī

tum ne ujāDa hazrat e zahrā ka būstāN
tum khud ujaD gaye tumheN ye bad’duá milī

dunyā parstO deen se muNh moD kar tumheN
dunyā milī na áysh o tarab kī hawā milī

aakhir dikhāya rang shahīdoN key khuun ney

Why have you not mentioned that he is syed?
i was not sure about it and was about to amend it shortly after verification. if i recall correctly, hashmi miyaN said in a speech some years ago: 'sadr al-afazil ban saktey ho, sayyid nahin ban saktey.'

in fatawa riDawiyyah, vol.23, pg.712 [fatwa number. 354] alaHazrat is asked about an issue and mawlana nayimuddin is mentioned without the appellation of 'sayyid' whereas, usually such an appellation is mentioned particularly when referring to ulama. [if it is mentioned anywhere else, i do not know.]

these statement are open to interpretation, and are not proof that he was not a sayyid. yet, i wanted to verify it prior to stating it. nothing against the shaykh. raHimahullah wa raDiya anhu.

I had no idea he was sayyid.

Does Hadrat sahib have any descendants from whom it could be verified?
 
i have other books by the shaykh, some which include sayyid and some do not. i also faintly remember someone long ago saying that the shaykh was not sayyid - he could have been mistaken; or i could have forgotten.

books which add sayyid on the title:

- al kalimatu'l `ulya li iylai ilm al-mustafa : a wonderful read on the matter of ilm al-ghayb in urdu. ad-dawlah is too advanced, and this is a simplified version accessible to anybody who can read urdu.

- riyaz e nayeem

- sawaniH e karbala

- khazayin al-irfan; a commentary on the qur'an.


books that don't:

- aTyab al-bayan raddi tafwiyatu'l eeman

- kitab al-aqayid
 
even if he was not a sayyid it would not detract from his greatness as a great alim but i always thought he was. we mustn't get a sayyid fetish though like some of our brethren who use it as an excuse to look down their noses at non-sayyids...
pir sayyid irfan shah sahib says something beautiful that being a sayyid gives you twice the rewards but also with it comes twice the responsibility and, if u sin, twice the punishment...
 
it does not detract, but being from the noble lineage certainly adds! of course it is a special honour.

anyway, that was not the intention here but we were asking for information purporses and is certainly an important aspect of one's biography.
