    assalam`alaikum,

I guess the brother is referring to this :

    Pg 11

    2.5.3 The Invalidators of Wudu`
    The following invalidates wudu`:
    1) Anything which exits from the two pathways.
    2) Blood, pus or serum when they exit from its location to a place which it is incumbent
    to purify.
    3) Vomit, if it was a mouthful.
    4) Touching the male and/or female genital organs or anus with the inside part of the
    bare hand.

    5) Losing consciousness, which includes insanity, drunkenness, coma, and sleep, except
if one is sleeping with his buttocks firmly seated.
    6) Laughter in any prayer containing ruku` and sujud (i.e. salatul janzah is not included,
yet the prayer is invalidated and must be repeated).

The statement in nūr al-īđāĥ is different than what this book is saying.

the moment i saw the book, i knew that 'nūr al-īđāĥ' has something to do with this. so i reached for nūr al-īđāĥ and i was correct in surmising that this is based on nūr al-īđāĥ, if not a translation itself.

now, in nūr al-īđāĥ, among the nawāqiđ al-wuđu (things that break the wuđu) is the last one: 'the touching of private parts by another's [private parts].' [nūr al-īđāĥ /marāqi'l falaĥ pg.40]

this is known as ‘mubāsharat al-fāĥishah’ as clarified in the explanation 'marāqi'l falaĥ' by the author, imam ash-shurnblāli himself.

    -----------------------
    from an old mail:
    -----------------------
    it is in durr al-mukhtār:
"touching one's own private parts doesn't break the wuđu, however it is better to wash it; neither does touching a woman or a young boy". [durr al-mukhtār, p.32]

imām ibn áābidīn doesn't even comment on it, indicating that he concurs. rather he cites Ĥadīths to prove the 'nadb' or the desirability of washing hands.
    [radd al-muĥtār, vol.1/p.158]

    ----
doing wuđu however, is desirable so as to agree with other madh’habs as well and to accommodate followers of other madh’habs. a detailed discussion follows in durr/ĥāshiyah which is not necessary to mention here.

    ----
hidāyah, qudūri do not even mention this, in the part ‘nawāqiđ al-wuđu’. however, imām shurnblālī says in marāqi’l falāĥ:

there are are ten things that DO NOT break the wuđu....
    ....
    ....
among it is touching of [one's own ] private parts absolutely – male, female, front or rear – and this is the madh’hab of senior şaĥābah, like úmar, áli, ibn masúūd, ibn ábbās, zayd ibn thābit, and prominent tabiýīn like ĥasan, saýīd, and thawrī rađiyallāhu ánhum.

a man, apparently a bedouin came to RasūlAllāh śallAllāhu álayhi wa sallam and asked, ‘yā RasūlAllāh, what do you say to a man who touches his private parts in şalat?’ he replied: ‘don’t you see that it is a part of your own’ or ‘an organ of yours?’.

tirmidhī says that this Ĥadīth is an excellent document in this matter and the most correct.
    [marāqi’l falāĥ, p.41]

    ----
imām ţaĥtāwī says in its supercommentary: imdād al-Fattāĥ, p.61:

his saying {absolutely}: even if it is touched by someone else; even if the one who is touched can be aroused; it is the same (ruling) if it is touched by the inner part of the hand (palm) or otherwise; even if it is done in a sexually aroused state or not.

but it is desirable (mustaĥabb) to wash the hands. (also) to wash the hands if one touches the part during istinjâ without water. the ĥadīth, ‘whoever touches their private parts should do wuđu’ has been ruled weak by a group of scholars.

(ibn humām) says in fat’ĥ (al-Qadīr): both the ĥadīths cannot progress beyond ĥasan, but the ĥadīth of ţalq shall be given precedence on the other. also, the ĥadīth reported by men is a more compelling evidence, since their memories are better and more accurate. it is also therefore, that the witness of two women equals one man.

ibn amīr al-ĥājj says, it is possible that the ĥadīth of busrah might just mean the washing of hands. it has been mentioned earlier that it is desirable (mustaĥabb) to do wuđu, so as to agree with all other imāms. because, it is always better to perform actions such that they are universally validated. (correct according to all madh'habs)

[s: the ĥadīth favored by shafiýīs is related by busrah bint şafwān and umm ĥabībah; whereas that of ĥanafīs is reported by ţalq ibn álī. also, the ĥadīth of ţalq is reported in the four sunans: abū dāwūd, tirmidhī, nasayī, ibn mājah and also aĥmed, dār quţni, ibn ĥibbān. (naşb ar-rāyah of zaylaýī vol.1/pg.60.]

    Asalamu alaykum,

    JazakAllah khair.

Still haven't read all of it but has the shaykh made an error in terms of wudu being broken by touching the private parts?
