    I heard Allama Baig Sahib say that an intravenous injection breaks the fast, otherwise it does not. I think that is the most sound and well researched answer.

    mufti akmal did explain the wisdom behind why it doesn't break the fast.

    those who say it does say that nothing should enter the body but they also agree that it is ok to put oil on the head during fast, and obviously, the oil enters the pores in the head and enters the body. hence, logically, injection is the same in that it enters the body and nourished/medicates.

    conversely, smoke entering through the mouth advertantly does break the fast eventhough it is not nourishing.

    ----

    so:

    1. that which nourished [the oil] does not break fast
    2. that which does not nourish [smoke] does break fast

    mufti akmal said that this is why their reasoning about the injection breaking fast because it nourishes/heals is not too logical.

    mufti akmal of qtv said that the jamhur say injection doesn't break the fast. my uncle told me mufti e a'zam also gave fatwa on this.
