My mother always wanted me to graduate as a topper. I refused to hang my graduation pic on the wall [which she wanted] because angels do not enter a home then. However, my graduation ceremony is in her video recorder. At least she can get the sukoon that her son lived up to her wishes of getting educated in some dunya skill to feed his tummy later in his life, and those of his family. I thank Allah for making me a topper, its His luTf. He is laTeef. He did not make me a bumm on the street. This is through my du'a of Madad of Habeeb SalAllahu alaihi wa alihi wa sallam
From al-Malfūz al-Sharīf, pp. 280: Can one take photographs of the Awliya and pious individuals and keep them for the sake of barakah? The photos Sayyidunā Khalīlullāh álayhis salâm, Sayyidunā Ismayil Zabīhullāh álayhis salâm and Sayyidāh Bībī Maryam rađiyAllāhu ánha were painted inside the blessed Ka’abah. They were regarded as sacred, but Sayyidunā RasūlAllâh śallAllāhu álayhi wa âlihi wa sahbihī wa sallam personally erased them with his śallAllāhu álayhi wa âlihi wa sahbihī wa sallam blessed hands.
Actually, wadood, it was a merciful thing. Being reminded of death, thereby preparing for it is one of the best things that can happen to a person. Following the narrow path -- the shari'ah -- ultimately leads to expansion, and the vice-versa. أكثروا من ذكر هادم اللذات is the hadith you're referring to, AbdalQadir, no? 'ala sahibiha afdal as-salati was-salam.
furthermore, all the scholars of tasawwuf ask us to ponder over our deaths. the grave is our final and lasting home. what will wadood say to all the ahadith and sayings of sahaba that speak in the same tone. don't remember the exact words now but as the message of the hadith says- death is the destroyer of all pleasures.
no, it wasn't heartless or whatever else you call it, wadood. it is very nearly ramadan so just please try to post as little as possible of your usual material. maybe you can think before posting.
I got my answer in Sidi AH inimitable style! I am aware of those hadith mubarak but since photography was not invented at the time I expect they referred to paintings or portraits or drawings. That is why asked for a fatwa. . .
That last paragraph and that pic was very heartless and unnecessary of brother AH. May be he can think before posting.
--------------- it is haram to make pictures of living things verily, those who make pictures of living things shall be punished severely on judgement day [reported in musnad imam ahmed and muslim] --- angels do not enter a house in which there are dogs or pictures [of living things] [reported in bukhari and muslim] ulama have said that this means - keeping them standing or hanging them or retaining them with respect. [see al-aTaya al-qadir fi hukmi't taSwir, vol.24] ------------------------------------ what is the point of hanging/keeping graduation pics? better to hang the picture of a graveyard - look closely... can you find the millionaire or the pauper? the topper or the dropout? the handsome or the ugly? and do you think they bother about their pictures taken or hung in their homes?
:s1: can a brother give the ruling preferably of sayyidina ala hazrat about the ruling for hanging up graduation photos on the wall or mantelpiece. If not Ala hazrat then another Sunni scholar. Jazakallah. If AH could answer that'll be best.
