akmaluddin muHammad ibn muHammad al-babarti al-Hanafi 712-786AH ----- in man'hal al-Saafi, v11/p22 by abu'l maHasin yusuf al-atabiki (d.874 AH) --- interestingly the text (both editions: ghaznawi's and babarti's) mentions sarghatmash (d.759 AH) in very glowing terms; and both ghaznawi and babarti were contemporaries. so little can be known from that... ...but wait! ghaznawi mentions sarghatmash in similar words in his other book ghurratu'l munifah. now it tilts in favour of ghaznawi, though it is just speculative. even babarti could have said the same thing. Allah ta'ala knows best.
now the editor of "sharh ghazanwi" says that he has based his edition and relied upon three copies; two of which are manuscripts and one is a printed edition. see on p11 of the PDF edition and on p165, he mentions the dates of those manuscripts: both are relatively recent copies, and these attribute this to ghaznawi. the printed edition, which claims that it was copied from the author's own copy and purportedly in his presence [ghaznawi in this case] in the year 764 AH. [ghaznawi, according to maqrizi's biographical notice was born in 704/705 AH and passed away in 773 AH.] however, yes. ibn Hajar asqalani in his inba al-ghumur and raf' al-iSr an quDat miSr [p.288, #152] etc. mention that he wrote a sharh on taHawiyyah. whether it is the same sharh or another, is now moot. ==== as for the babarti edition, of which abdu's sattar abu ghuddah is a reviewer, it is mentioned that an older edition is among the MSS used: dated 1147 AH. ---- wAllahu a'alam
As far as I know there was an issue when it was re-printed in Kuwait by the Waqf dept., that's where the misattribution came in. I may be wrong though, if you find out otherwise please do enlighten me.
shaykh sayid foudeh attributes this book to babarti as well in his sharh TaHawiyyah. though the researcher of "ghaznawi" edition attributes it to ghaznawi. ==== but wait. let us do some investigation
Beautiful Explication Mawlana. May Allah reward you. Just a small correction, Sharh al-Tahawiyyah is misattributed to al-Babarti al-Hanafi, the sharih is actually al-Ghaznawi al-Hindi.
