I often hear scholars say things like: “Allah said, “I did so-and-so because…” when they know and we all know Allah didn’t really say these things. They are not in the Qur’an or Sunnah.

What the scholars mean when they say “Allah said…” is that they believe Allah did so-and-so for so-and-so reason. So in truth what they are saying is: “I think Allah did so-and-so because…” but they attribute it to Allah and say He actually said it.

Even tahir ul qadri sahib does it quite often. I think the reason he does it often is because he ponders over things and always looks for the wisdom behind things. So, when he thinks he has found a reason why he believes Allah did such and such a thing, he says: “Allah ne kaha maiN ne yeh kaam is liye kiya…”

i know aH said it's not allowed; so why is it so prevalent amongst even the top scholars?

na'ats also have this trait. eg. khud rabb ne kaha masha Allah subHan Allah subHan Allah.

ps: mods, move this to 'aqidah thread if necessary
