We Sunni Persians are extremely patriotic of our nation and culture. We have maintained our communities despite challenges. We occupy a vast nation covering a physical land area equal to that of India! Bukhara and Samarqand are still dominated by us. Herat is our jewel. Balkh is our sapphire.

Majority of the Patriotic Persians in the west support these flags.

  5. that would be great wadood agha!
but i was talking in general terms--not just about religiously-themed films. another beautiful thing about this farsi cinema is it is clean and can be watched without fear of embarrassment.

BTW do Sunni persians feel a separate nation to shia persians? in my rather extensive experience of persians in general they are VERY patriotic and proud of their persian-ness.

    salam az man!

I think it is essential for Sunni Persians to begin an Iranian Islamic religious cinema to counter the dozens of religious movies that the current Iranian Twelver regime has sponsored. We Sunni Persians have enough resources from Tajikistan to Bukhara to Afghanistan to Southern Iran.

Brother Asif, it is the aspiration for reaching high up as the Simurgh and becoming as lovely as the flowers of Shiraz and Kazerun. It is pure inveterate Persianess. We have instilled the love for art into all those who have made home next to us. It is the Barakah of our Habeeb SalAllahu 'alayhi wa alihi wa sallam.

  8. just reviving this thread to make it general: given the importance of the media in the world we live in is an islamic cinema not only possible but essential?

  9. One of the astonishing things about Iran since the Revolution of Khomeini is the vibrancy of its cinema. Iranian film-makers have won the top prizes at the world's premiere film festivals again and again with their serious cinema.

And all this without resorting to sex and other non-Shariah compliant ways of selling movies. Simple stories, very relevant, and beautifully shot.

The latest hit is the animated cartoon Persepolis. Anyone seen it?

This proves that an Islamic system of government doesn't have to become artistically sterile a la Taliban or Saudi Arabia.
