Are you kidding brother that a ordinary man is different from other. It is the ordinary man for whom I serve so that he or she will not eat Haram foods. A fatwa from a Mufti saheb has to be for all Muslim. Look majority of Muftisaheban are not educated in food field nor they have experience in food industry, so they have to depend upon their assistants or close followers who have education in science but they are not qualified food experts. If they asked same questions to qualified independant Muslim food experts then Mufti saheb could avoided this mistake. This is simple thing I am saying and did you know how many Muslims consumed Haram foods based on his fatwa, who is going to be responsible for that.

His brief answer has to be correct so that the ordinary person should avoid eating Haram foods. Why we go to see a doctor to cure our diseases because he is expert in his field, Muslim do not go to Muftisaheban to cure the diseases. Same way happens in food area. The Muslims in western countries always has to struggle against eating pork dervied ingredient whether it is listed under the ingredients or hidden in the food ingredients such as whey. Whey can be made with Haram hidden ingredients including pork rennet. So Muslims need protection by consuming Halal or Kosher certified whey or whey is made for vegetarian. I have no objection about Muftisaheban giving fatwa on religious, social and other issue but on foods there is not much information in the fiqah books about modern or westren foods. Even alcohol was not discovered at the time of Hajrat Imam Abuhanifa RA period.

He is porbably doing good job serving Muslim in religious matter but for foods he can not give fatwas without consulting qualified food experts. Because foods in westren countries are complex made with hidden ingredints more importantly use of pork as a source for several food ingredients. So do not follow blindly on fatwas issued by Muftisaheban if they do not consult with qualified Muslim food experts otherwise you will be consuming Haram foods.

So you are saying I am not a Mufti and I should not disagree with Mufti Saheb. What about bring the truth how whey ingredient is made in westren countries and what are the hidden ingredients in it. Is this a crime against muftisaheban. What about to those Muslim food experts who spent many years studying food science and many years of work expereience in the western food industry. Is this compare to nothing against a Muftisaheb who never learn about food science and never know what goes into making of western complex food products. It look like based on your principle we should blindly accept his saying or fatwa without any doubt and forget about truth and do not give a dime to those Muslim food experts who went through rough tough schooling in universities and getting experience in tough westren food industry. Any qualified Muslim food experts can give the right reply to any question related to western complex food products based on his education and experience. so why a ordinary man has to go to a Mufti saheb who do not have the same knowledge as the Muslim food experts.

Nobody denying the contribution of Muftisaheban in regard to religion and Muslim social issues but they are not experts in modern day westren food products but they need help from qualified Muslim food experts.

Do not take me wrong I have no problem with Mufti saheban issuing fatwas on food products but before they issue fatwas they should consult with qualified Muslim food experts to make sure it is technically and scientifically correct so to avoid common Muslim eating Haram foods. I am not against any Mifti saheb but I always respect them about their contribution on religious and social isues of Muslims. I want to help them if they need any help in understanding technical isuues before making fatwas on foods.

  2. Assalaamu 'Alaykum Ya Ahl-e-Sunnat wa al-Jama'at

You know Jam (I hate to give a good name Junaid ..!) , the thing is Abu Hasan and Aqdas, Abu Nibraas , Noori , Naqshbandijamaati these all are atleast far more better than Ulama-e-Deoband as a whole, whose ridiculuos fatawas (rather Jokebooks i prefer to say.. !!) make us laugh .. Atleast the Masabih team has the power to calrify things in light of efficient Hawalas but Mr. Rasheed Ahmad gangohi presented himself as a Hawala (ridiculuos!!)

And Jam i am so doubtful abt. u that if u support any Aalim, i am not at all convinced because the Aalims u believe in generally land up as a Deo..!
just like when the Suicidial bombers of al-qaeda and taalibaan are caught they turn up to be Wahhabis!! wat a co-incidence..!!!

Waiting earnestly for ur "absolutely ridiculous and hardly logical replies"

Mufti Ebrahim Saheb’s wrong Fatwa on whey Powder

This is the fatwa he was given on www.askimam.org " According to our understanding of whey powder, it is the liquid after milk forms into curd. Accordingly, there is no reason for whey powder to be Haraam. If the powder has any other Haraam ingredients, then our ruling will be different. and Allah Ta’ala Knows Best Mufti Ebrahim Desai."

Whey powder is a 100% whey. No other ingredients are present in whey powder except hidden ingredients are added to milk before whey is produced.

The matter of fact that whey is only Halal if it is Halal or kosher certified or made as suitable for vegetarian. Because a common Muslim does not know what Haram hidden ingredients are used in milk before whey is manufactured.

Mufti Saheb cannot put the responsibility on a common Muslim to find out what Haram hidden ingredients are present in the whey . Because whey powder do not contain any ingredient. A common Muslim do not know what hidden ingredients are added to milk before whey is produced.

His fatwa should have said " According to our understanding of whey powder, it is the liquid after milk forms into curd. Accordingly, if whey is Halal certified or kosher certified which meet the Halal requirements or it is declared suitable for vegetarian then there is no reason for whey powder to be Haraam".

Whey is two type, one is sweet whey which is made from when starter culture bacteria are added to milk after they grown on media. Then rennet is added to milk to curd the milk. The water remaining after curding of the milk is called Whey. Then whey is dried on dryers to make whey powder. Dryers should not use for Haram products. So it is a by-product of rennet cheese. Most of food products are made with sweet whey.

The second type of whey is acid whey which is made from similar method above except acid is used to curd the milk. It is a by-product of cottage cheese.

There are three hidden ingredients used to make whey powder. Under ingredients list whey is listed as 100% whey or whey powder without mention of hidden ingredients.

1.Starter culture bacteria: It has to be obtained from milk source to be Halal if it obtained from meat source then it is not Halal.

    2. Starter culture media: The starter culture media upon which starter culture bacteria are grown and multiply is made of Milk, Non Fat Milk Powder, Whey, Lactose, Autolyzed Yeast Extract, Dextrin, Dextrose, Pancreatin(from pork in old days but not anymore may be in Europe), Phosphate Salts, combination one or more of above ingredients. Whatever used those ingredients has to be Halal.

    3. Rennet: Only microbial rennet is Halal not animal based such as pork or non zabiha beef. Italian cheeses are usually made with animal rennet.

When whey is Halal or kosher certified or use as a suitable for vegetarian then Muslims are protected against use of Haram hidden ingredients. Without these certifications, the manufacturer are not bounded to use only Halal hidden ingredients. It is possible pork rennet can be used as a hidden ingredients.

The person or persons who provided the scientific information to Mufti saheb are not qualified food experts which resulted in the wrong fatwa..

In USA/Canada if a Halal or Kosher symbol appeared(It must meet the Halal requirements)on a food product containing whey, it means the whey is Halal and the product is Halal if all ingredients are Halal or in case of kosher certification, it should meet the Halal requirements.

In Europe if the "Suitable for Vegetarian" appeared on a food package containing whey, it means the whey is Halal and the product is Halal if no alcohol is used in the products(Suitable for Vegetarian label products may contain liquor or alcohol).

MCG requests Mufti Ebrahim Desai saheb to modified his fatwa so that Muslims stop eating Haram food products containing Haram whey because of his wrong fatwa and get the help from qualified food experts.
