the highest ones among the savants of Ahl as sunnat are called Mujtahid imams.the Mujtahid imams who were the highest of the savants of the Ahl as sunna ,in their search for witnesses in order to decide about certain matters disagreed with one another in some affairs.thus, various Madhabs emerged.among them, the books of the famous four madhabs spread everywhere, and the other madhabs were forgetten.
a Muslim who is not a Mujtahid has to do his every worship and every affair by imitiating a mujtahid.

Sahib al-Tamyiz - What do I have to know?

as-salam 'alaikum.

I don't have enough knowledge to give an answer to your question. Instead, I have a related question of my own.

What are the qualifications that must be met to be a sahib al-tamyiz?

What knowledge do the as-hab al-tamyiz [like al-Mawsili, Abul-Barakat al-Nasafi, Sadr ash-Shari'a al-Awwal and Sadr ash-Shari'a al-Thani, and al-Halabi] have that an 'amm muqallid like Imam Ibn 'Abidin lacks?

Shaykhulislam Ibn Kamal Pashazada is listing the Mujtahids as 6:

1- Mujtahid Fi’sh-Sher (= Mujtahid in Din, Mujtahid-i Mutlaq)
2- Mujtahid fi’l-Madhab (= Mujtahid in Madhab)
3- Mujtahid fi’l Masala (= Mujtahid in special matters)
4- Ashab-i Tahrij (= Those who can make Tahrij)
5- Ashab-i Temyiz (= Those who can make Temyiz)
6- Mukallid-i Mahz (= Those who only can make Taqlid)

He then explains who is who. Example:

1. MUJTAHID FI’SH-SHAR’
A Mujtahid which is not following another Mujtahid in the Asl and Far Matters. Someone which is possesing the absolute Ijtihad is called so or Mujtahid Mutlaq.
Those Mujtahids are those, who have their own Usul and Rulings and which can give Hukum from the Naas. They all have own methody in Ijtihad. Those have an own Mazhap. Imam Azam Abu Hanifa, Imam Malik, Imam Schafi and Imam Ahmed ibn Hanbal counts to those Group and those whose mazhap dont exist anymore.
etc. etc. etc.

Alhamdulillah, but my question is: What do I have to know exactly (How much Ahadith, How much Arabic, etc. etc.) to become one of those Groups??

Example: How Much Ahadith do I have to know to become a Mujtahid fil Mazhap?

Thank you for the answer...

As Salam Alaikum
