  1. Title: The Noor and the Clear Book
Reference: Tafsir of Surah Al Mai'dah
    Category: Tafseer/Khutbah

Quran: Ya Ahlal Kitaab, Qad Jaa'akum Rasooluna Yubanyinu Lakum
Kaseeram Mima Kuntum Tuhfoona Minal Kitabe Wa Yafoo An Maseer, Qad
Jaa'akum Minalahi Nur-un Wa Kitaabun Mubeen………………… (Surah Al Maidah
    Verses 15/16)

Rough Translation: Oh people of the book, to you came our messenger,
showing you/displaying to you, a lot of information that you are
hiding (in your own book) , and he forgives lots , you have received
from Allah , Nur & a clear book, Allah guides by this book , whoever
follows the ways of peace, it takes them from the darkness to the
light, with Allah's permission , and will take them to a straight path.

    Introduction

Knowledge is power, you go to uni , some even pay to receive
information, so that you can gain the tools of success.

In agriculture, the farmers don't do what they use to do in the old
days, they work differently, and they are more successful.

There never use to be a cure for TB, it use to kill people, now it is
    curable, due to advancements.

In war, if you know your opponent and their weaknesses, you can easily
win, this is due to knowledge.

Islam came to help everybody to advance in life, but greed comes and
changes the tool of knowledge to a tool of oppression.

e.g. You have knowledge, but you don't share it and leave others in
    darkness and error.

Even on a country level, countries don't want to share knowledge, and
want to be ahead of each other, rather than sharing knowledge.

Even on an individual level, we don't want to share knowledge, due to
jealously , who gives you knowledge? We seem to have a lack of trust
    in Allah swt.

O people of the books means (Jews and Christians), "our" messenger
came to you (note the our {meaning prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم}".

The prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم is exposing what you are hiding from the book. The
prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم was not seen reading/writing, going to school, but he is
revealing what is hidden in their books?

    Who taught him?

    Allah swt taught him!

Why are they hiding info from their own people?

So they can always oppress people, by making them dependant upon you.

They were hiding the information from their people, and feeding them
drip by drip, like some people still do today.

If you give them all the info, then what's the difference between them
    and you?

They want to create barriers between them and you!

The prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم forgives a lot!

2 opinions of scholars on this

    1) He صلى الله عليه وسلم will show you the truth, and forgive you, he's not out
there to revenge you, but as a mercy to you.

    2) He doesn't wanna tell you all the details, so he doesn't expose
you, or embarrass you, this is called dawah with wisdom.

You have received NUR and A CLEAR BOOK FROM Allah swt.

    Imam Kurtubi, Raazi etc, mention this Ayat has 3 things;

    a) 1ST opinion – they said "nur (from darkness of kufr to nur of
Islam) means Islam" and Quran-un-Mubeen is "Quran".

    b) 2nd opinion is by Raazi – both of them NUR and KITAABUN MUBEEN
    are QURAN.

    c) Suyuti says – it means if there are 2 things mentioned with the
"wauw", it means 2 are different things, therefore NUR is Muhammad
(صلى الله عليه وسلم), and KITABUN MUBEEN is QURAN.

    d) Alusi says – it is true that 2 things must be different, but not
necessarily, so he means that BOTH are Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم. He says "he
prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم is also a clear book, as Aisha (r.a) , said he is a
    walking Quran among people".

Why did he send the Nur (prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم) ?

He came to get rid of darkness, and he did when he came to the world
    (صلى الله عليه وسلم).

Allah guides with this Nur, to the ways of PEACE/COMFORT.

If it is a way to peace/comfort, then why are there differences?

What Shaykh means is that "Abu Hanifa had difference of opinions with
    others, ".

For example in Shaf'ii fiqh , you touch a woman, your wudu is broken.

Abu Hanifa says "no it means , touching in a sexual manner".

Imam Shaf'I says "I will take superficial meaning, so I will take it
    as it says".

The difference is not based on HAWWA, but based on QURAN AND SUNNAH.

So they are different in their intellectual opinion, but they are
guided by the Quran and Sunnah, and they have the ability to accept
    each others opinion.

Those who deny the SUNNAH deny the QURAN , it is mandated in the QURAN.

WAY OF PEACE, does not mean a place free of war, what about those who
live in a country with no wars, do they necessarily have peace of
    mind/heart?

Think of it in those terms!!!!!!!

If there are any faults in the postings above, they are due to myself
and not from the origional khutba of Shaykh.

May Allah(swt) continue to elevate the Maqam of our shaykh and their
Noble family and give us all the ability to benefit from their wealth
of knowledge and wisdom, and forgive me for my shortcomings.

    Ameen
