    following verses are attributed to Imam shafiy'

    I complained to Imam Wakiy' about my weak memory, he advised me to shun sins and said that the knowledge is Allah's noor, and a sinner is not given way to His noor.

    In Shu'ub al-Iman of Baiyhaqi the statement is attributed to Ali bin Khashram;

    أﺧﺒﺮﻧﺎ ﺃﺑﻮ ﻋﺒﺪ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﺍﻟﺤﺎﻓﻆ ﻗﺎﻝ : ﺳﻤﻌﺖ ﺃﺑﺎ ﺍﻟﻄﻴﺐ ﻣﺤﻤﺪ ﺑﻦ ﺃﺣﻤﺪ ﺍﻟﺬﻫﻠﻲ ﻳﻘﻮﻝ ﺳﻤﻌﺖ ﻣﺴﺪﺩ ﺑﻦ ﻗﻄﻦ ﺳﻤﻌﺖ ﻋﻠﻲ ﺑﻦ ﺧﺸﺮﻡ ﻳﻘﻮﻝ : ﺷﻜﻮﺕ ﺇﻟﻰ ﻭﻛﻴﻊ ﻗﻠﺔ ﺍﻟﺤﻔﻆ ﻓﻘﺎﻝ :
    ﺍﺳﺘﻌﻦ ﻋﻠﻰ ﺍﻟﺤﻔﻆ ﺑﻘﻠﺔ ﺍﻟﺬﻧﻮﺏ . ﺍﻟﺒﻴﻬﻘﻲ ﻓﻲ ﺍﻟﺸﻌﺐ(2/272)

    And piety too. When a friend of mine read an excellent book, he messaged to say: it shows the author must be very pious.

    They say piety correlates to a sharp memory.

    The more you remember.

    I'm amazed how much speakers like Shaykh Asrar remember, I.e. sharp memories.

    But it comes from being an avid reader. A bibliophile. Because they say, the more you read, the more you remember.

    Mawlana Abu Zohra Rizwi too. Great memory. ماشاء الله
