    i believe it is the tafsir of alam nashrah that is the source of ishq hi ishq.

    perhaps you have not seen his exegesis of surah Al-Sharah', there are more than 5 pages filled with only alqabaat for our beloved Prophet Muhammad 'alaihi afdalussalat wat-tasleem.

    i saw prof dr masud ahmad naqshbandi's ishq hi ishq which is derived from one mawlana naqi ali khan's books.

    at the start of the book, prof masud asks a question: where did alaHazrat get his tarbiyah from?

    it was his father, one of the leading scholars of his age, mawlana naqi ali.

    ishq hi ishq is beautiful. it is magnificent. it covers, i think, 8 pages and the whole book is full of alqaab [titles] that mawlana naqi ali described rasulAllah sallAllahu 'alaihi wasallam with.

    i think there must be about 150 alqaab that show the honour of rasulAllah sallAllahu 'alaihi wasallam. prof masud says this is where alaHazrat got his ishq from.

    ---
    may Allah have mercy on mawlana naqi, alaHazrat and prof masud.

    Mawlāna Naqī Álī Khān Barelwi rađiyAllāhu ánhū.
    [Gleaned from a biographical note in urdu by Shihābuddīn Razwi and Imām Aĥmed Riđā Khān’s preface to the book Al-Kalām al-Awđaĥ]

    Mawlānā Naqī Álī Khān al-Barelwī was born in either Jumādā al-Ākhirah or Rajab of the year 1246AH / 1830CE in Dhakhīrah area in Bareilly[1]. His father, Mawlānā Riđā Álī Khān raĥimahullāh was a famous and prominent scholar and a well-known gnostic [áārif bi’llāh] of his time.

    Mawlānā Riđā Álī was born in 1224AH. He completed his studies in the town named ‘Tonk’ under Mawlānā Khalīl ar-Raĥmān ibn Mullā Írfān Rāmpūri.[2] He received his degree at the age of 23, in the year 1247AH. He was a master of fiqh and taşawwuf. He was also a very able orator. He passed away on the 6th of Jumādā al-Ūlā, 1286 AH.[3] He was also was a patron of literature – thus, in prosody, he was a student of Sadruddīn Āzurdah.[4] He has a dīwān or a collection of verse. A couplet penned by him [5]:
    āah hum par huwā musallaT wabāl e farangiyāN
    humīN haiN mālik aur hameN ānkheN dikhāyi jātī haiN?

    Alas, we are subject to the misery of [being under] the British;
    We are the masters, yet they threaten us!

    Mawlānā Naqī Álī learnt the islamic sciences from his illustrious father.[6] He was pious and virtuous from a very young age. He soon became a mufti under his father’s tutelage. He was very intelligent and had a deep knowledge of Islamic sciences. He kept aloof from rulers and wealthy folk. He was generous, kind, honorable, content, well-respected and awe-inspiring. His mastery of sciences included Ĥanafī fiqh and fiqh of other madh’habs; qur’ānic sciences, qur’ānic exegesis, ĥadīth, usūl al-ĥadīth, kalām, grammar, morphology, logic, philosophy, rhetoric, polemics, arithmetic, geometry, taşawwuf, biographies, history, literature and inheritance. Imām Aĥmed Riđā adds[7]: yīN na baĥr yīst ke dar kūzah e taĥrīr āmad / this an ocean that cannot be contained in a cup [writing of a few pages].

    He passed away in Dhu’l Qaádah of the year 1297AH /1880CE. He was 51. Among his disciples and students is his own son, Imām Aĥmed Riđā Khān al-Barelwi rađiyAllāhu ánhū – one that outweighs a thousand.
