the fatwa - not mine, but of alahazrat; rather, the fatwa of one far higher than him, that is of mawla ali raDi'Allahu anhu is: it is impermissible for a non-scholar to make a speech about islamic topics in a gathering or as a sermon [wa'az, nasihat]. a non-aalim can probably read out a from a book or prepared speech (by a scholar), but not permitted to give sermon on his own.
Has the Brother studied the Deen? Would it be better if a qualified British Alim from the NW gave the Friday speech at NMJM?
ma sha'Allah. i listened to the clip and the brother has unreservedly accepted it as a mistake and repented from it. every son of adam is a sinner, and the best are those who repent. may Allah ta'ala accept his tawbah and keep him on guidance. --- may Allah ta'ala forgive us and him and protect us from saying or doing things - deliberately or inadvertently - that may be disrespectful to all the beloved prophets and messengers of Allah, especially our master, sayyiduna RasulAllah sallAllahu alayhi wa sallam. note: we have also deleted the original post criticising him as its purpose is served.
