Yes but clapping is a custom and the Fatwa changes with time for customs as is well known. Back then Muslims didn't clap at events to show appreciation but now it is not confined to only non muslims. Everyone is doing it and it is a custom. Clapping will take its verdict according to why it is done in the first place and intention, so if you clap to encourage your child while he has just finished reading his first book at a young age (for example) and it is not to imitate non muslims then there is no evidence anywhere in Shariah that this type of clapping is forbidden.
