You can also do a manual search yourself using the cntrl+F function. (you can as in, it's possible, not saying you should, i too don't pay much attention to these word matches) Just download the text of the Quran from here: http://tanzil.net/download/ And then search the Arabic text using cntrl+F. For text only without tashkeel, choose the option "simple-clean" in the selection of the Quran text.
No it's 0 and 1. The basmala in Surah Naml is a part of a longer verse and not a stand alone single verse, so the basmala in that surah can't be called a full single verse. In the Fatiha it is a stand alone single verse for those reciters that consider it to be a part of the Fatiha. Unless you're talking about a different issue.
i read the first 100 pages and then dropped of; he somehow extracts the figure 7. abjad is more scientific than his method. sorry, haven't time to look into it.
Didn't you mean to say 1 & 2 ? Actually I wanted to discuss the author's belittling of I'lm al-Abjad. Haven't great scholars including Sayyidi AlaHadhrat (alaihirrahmah) studied it and trusted its methodology? And how does the author propose to ascertain the veracity of the Quran by his findings? What is his yardstick? Neither the Quran nor RasulAllah (sallallahua'laihiwasallam) have informed us of the existence of any particular numeric system whose violation should suggest a corruption in the text. (or have they?) What exact standards of numerical rhythm does the author expect from a book that wishes to vindicate its claim of being a Divine Revelation ?
i am sure there will be many comments - but i just wanted to point a fact with the basmalah. many people think that basmalah is a part of the surah, though it is simply written for barakah. except for surah al-fatiHah, which is differed upon - imam abu hanifah among other authorities did not consider basmalah as verse of the surah; some others did (including the hafs an asim we recite). according to our imam, basmalah is a verse of surah an-naml. [the number-7 book mentions this on pg.89] ----- if you look up the mus'Haf, basmalah in the beginning of no other surah is numbered, except for surah fatiHah. so according to hanafis: 0 according to others: 1 do the math yourself. -------------------------------------------------------- Allah ta'ala knows best.

"Salah 5 times Month 12 times Day 365 times" Now i dont know if thats true (that day comes 365 times) but if it is then it doesnt match up with the 5 and 12 since according o the islamic calendar there's around 355 days, not 365, if you got my point.
update. on sea and land. the generic match for baHr (assuming sea) is 39 including duals (baHrayn, baHraan, abHur). al-baHr :32; baHr: 1 = 33* al-barr: 12 times (meaning earth) however, al-Barr is used once more and that is the name of Allah ta'ala. (you may get more results with al-Birr/goodness righteousness being the same spelling) ---------------------------------------------------- *not counting the plurals (baHraan:1, baHrayn:4, abHur:1) Allah ta'ala knows best.
I really do not think Dr Tariq Suwaidan (a Kuwaiti I saw in Toronto) is qualified to be called a researcher on Islam, because of something he said, which I found extremely disrespectful. He was on the stage late at night (11:30 pm) speaking to 5000+ people, in the Reviving the Islamic Spirit conference based in downtown Toronto. He was commenting on the critical thinking of Muslims. He said, and I am not quoting, that Muslims should be critical of what they hear because every narration is not a 100% sound. So if someone comes to you and says Abu Hanifa read 1000 raka'ats of nawafil in one night, then dont believe this. Is it possible for a man to read a 1000 rak'ats in one night, that would mean reading one raka'at every minute, and how could that be?Dr. Tariq Suwaidan then acted out the quick postures that someone would make if he were to read one raka'a every minute on the stage in front of everybody. He also praised and exalted 'Abdal Wahab Najdi for reviving true Islam (wahabism) at the end. I have heard that he belongs to the Ikhwani party in Kuwait which is sometimes at loggerheads with the salafi one and sometimes in agreement. I was very sad after I saw this. However, recently, Dr Tariq has met up with traditional 'ulama. He met Shaykh Habib 'Ali al Jifri HafizuhuAllah ta'ala and Shaykh RamaDan al Buti HafizuhuAllah ta'ala in Lebanon. And it seems he is changing his opinions and sitting more often with traditional Awliya Allah. Allah Knows Best.
dunya is دنيا appears 111 times. http://tinyurl.com/e38hk akhirah as اخرة appears 114 times. http://tinyurl.com/dh3l8 ---- mra'atun or مرأة meaning woman is found in 9 verses http://tinyurl.com/clcqn nisaa نساء (women) is found in 42 verses rajul (man) has to be verified manually because the same spelling is used for rijl (foot) and for this purpose i have used the exact-word match (even discounting the ones with 'al'). even then, there are 7 matches http://tinyurl.com/9xvxm [i have completely ignored the dual or tathniyah where 'imra-atayn' (two women) and 'rajulayn' (two men) since this brings up erroneous results. here the pattern with raa-jeem-laam occurs in instances of single and dual] ---- note that for the sake of brevity we will suppose that each word occurs exactly once in each ayah; then we have as many times as the ayah (as turned out by the search). but let us be a little more exact: the word month شهر is found in 17 verses and the breakdown is thus http://tinyurl.com/eyz3q: shahr 4 times shahran 2 times ash-shahr 6 times (including bi'sh-shahr) shahrayn 2 times ash-hur 6 times shuhur 1 time a grand total of 21 with the singular 'month' 12 times however. agreed, it works for 'month' but does the same rule apply for all others? --- anyway, i am sure that further elaboration is unnecessary and the reader can clearly see the point. Allah ta'ala knows best.
let me state as a prelude that i won't be surprised or i won't deny such a 'word-match', if at all it exists. it is quite possible. but such tabulations are unnecessary because the qur'an is meant to be as a guidance and the miracle (or the mu'jizah) in it is not mere tabulations of words. if that was the case anyone can today compile a book with such exact tabulations. the mu'jizah or the miracle of the qur'an is in its timeless teachings and the beauty of which is not lost even on the starkest of its deniers. it eloquence is undeniable except by the awfully prejudiced and the lasting impression it has on the listener. for those who read arabic, the difference is obvious. because when you see an ayah interspersed with running arabic text, one can instantly recognize that this language is different. again, it may be anecdotal evidence and maybe because i am used to the style of the qur'an. anyway, i find it extremely disagreeable to reduce the importance of the qur'an to a few word-matches. apart from the fact that these claims are highly irregular, inconsistent and plainly incorrect. i will come to that in a moment, inshaAllah. --- the second important thing to know about arabic, the language of the qur'an is that it is a highly morphological language. that is, words are based on a single root; which is modified (or morphed) to derive new words and even verbs fall in this rule. for example, qur'an is itself from the root qar'a meaning 'he reads'; so qur'an is 'that which is read'; and a qari is 'he who reads' and so forth. --- the third preliminary to our discussion is that like any other language there are synonyms and descriptive and indicative phrases in arabic; along with plurals. thus, if a count be made according to what is translated the method becomes incorrect. for example: maqaleed means 'keys'; so also mafaateeH means 'keys'. if you do a word match in arabic, they are two different words per se. but in english 'keys' will turn out two matches. --- the problem is further complicated since in arabic the word 'al' precedes many words and appears as if it is a part of the word. 'al' is actually the definite article 'the' and is assimilated with the word. so we must find matches for both 'dunya' and 'ad-dunya'. now in arabic, some prepositions are also assimilated with the word itself. for example "li'd dunya" means "for the dunya" where the letter 'laam' is a preposition meaning "for". so we must keep such assimilations in mind. however with computer searches we can limit this problem by searching for four letters: 'daal' 'nun' 'yaa' and 'alif'. therefore, it is absolutely necessary that we must stick to the arabic search. --- let us now examine a few claims (i will go for those with smaller numbers since it will be difficult to compare the larger ones satisfactorily) claim: [Muhammad 4 times and Shareeah 4 times.] the name Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) is certainly mentioned four times. but the word shari`ah is not. or atleast i cannot find it according to the method i have described above. however, we can come up with these possibilities: shari`ah or شريعةة with five letters: sheen, raa, yaa, `ayn and taa appears exactly once in this verse: 45:18 http://tinyurl.com/bklgq [i have used this search: http://www.searchtruth.com/ ] shir`ah or شرعة with four letters: sheen, raa, `ayn and taa also appears exactly once in this verse: 48:5 http://tinyurl.com/cjtv3 shar`a or شرع with three letters: sheen, raa and `ayn also appears exactly once in this verse: 42:13 http://tinyurl.com/cjtv3 shar`auu or شرعوا with five letters: sheen, raa, `ayn, waw and alif also appears exactly in this verse: 42:21 http://tinyurl.com/cjtv3 the first and second mean shari`ah as we understand: 'canon law'. the third and fourth are actually verbs that mean, 'canon law was enforced by/for...' but herein lies the problem. there is a fifth instance from the same root with the same meaning: shurra`a or شرعا sheen, raa, `ayn and alif in verse: 7:163 http://tinyurl.com/cjtv3 we can probably think of other derivations from the same root, but just one extra word is enough to prove my point. one can argue that the meaning in the last verse i have quoted is used in a different context, but it becomes inconsistent since we are matching words and that is the core of the argument. regardless all five are from the same root and are synonymous. ---- as for 'salah', with the spelling صلاة it is a ridiculous claim since the word appears in 65 verses and let us assume it appears only once in a verse; it still makes 65. http://tinyurl.com/bxuqr the variation of 'salah' is with an extra waw which is silent in recitation; صلوة three times. http://tinyurl.com/aeasw however the plural 'salawat' صلوات is found five times. http://tinyurl.com/9penn the word 'salah' (pl. salawat) to mean 'namaaz' or the special prayer obligatory for muslims five times a day is used only three times in the above search. thus it becomes irregular - if you ask for context it is three times with a certain word and more with all possibilites. because this special prayer is also referred to in other words than 'salah'. and if you ask for exact word match it is five times - BUT only plurals and if you ask for exact word match without plurals it is sixty five times.
a few days ago, i received a mail from an esteemed elder asking me to verify the claim since i could do a word match and since i must be having some tools. this kind of critical thinking and meticulousness of our elders seems to have been lost on the younger generation. --- anyway here is the claim: [A M A Z I N G Q U R A N DR.TARIQ AL SUWAIDAN discovered some verses in the Holy Quran that mention one thing is equal to another ie man is equal to woman. The astonishing fact is that the number of times the word man appears in the Quran is 24 and the word woman also appears 24 times. In the same way the word :- Dunia appears 115 times and Aakhirat 115 times Life appears 145 times and death 145 times People appears 50 times and messenger 50 times Zakat appears 32 times and barkath 32 times Tounge appears 25 times and sermon 25 times Hardship 114 times and patience 114 times Muhammad 4 times and Shareeah 4 times. And amazingly enough have a look how many times the following words apppear Salah 5 times Month 12 times Day 365 times. The most amazing find is :- The word sea appears 32 times and land appears 13 times The ratio Sea : Land = 32:13 =32/45:13/45=71.111 : 28.889 Modern Science has proved that the water covers 71.11% of the earth while the land covers 28.889 % Isn't it amazing?
