you have confused it with the recitation in salah, it is makruh to recite surahs in reverse order in prayer. There is no karaha to recite different surahs in any order, as long as one does not do it out of disrespect. reciting wazaif in order is not mandatory, and it does not make any difference whether you say this dua first when you go to bed, or at the end after all other wazaif. so, reciting surahas in order or without order is perfectly okay, do what you prefer to do, and do not assume that others are doing it wrong specially when it is suggested by elder scholars like a'ala hazrat alaihi rahmah wa riDwan.
I do not wish go against anyone but The Sunnah and Shariah prescribe to sleep reciting a number of Ayats- Ayatul Kursi, Surah Kafiroon and the three Kul Shareefs and then recite the Tasbih of Hazrat Fatimah Tuz Zahra RadhiAllahu Annha (SubhanAllah x33, Alhamdulillah x33 the Allahu Akbar x 34) My point being that the Verses due to etiquette must be recited in the order of the Qur'an and Mushaf. This is my understanding and that would entail that Surah Kafiroon is not the last thing one reads in fact the final thing would be Allahumma Bi Ismika a Mutu wa Ahya. This is after the Three Kuls and then the Tasbih. However, if one reads only Surah Kafiroon and the Dua, then I presume the Dua would be read first followed by the Surah Anyone??
A person come in the court of Ala Hadrat seeking dua to pass away with faith. To which Ala Hadrat advised him to do this;

Also, I think in bab e ridda of Bahar e Shariat, the Imam Amjad Ali alHanafi alQadri, Rahmat Allahi Ta'ala also menitons a dua, and the naql is from Imam Sayyid Ibn Abideen, Rahmat Allahi Ta'ala alayh, Fataawa e Shami, to protect ones Iman. Maybe someone could also quote that?
Salam I think these Ahadith alSharif are from Imam alBukhari, Sahih, Rahmat Allahi Ta'ala alayh. Volume 1, Book 3, Number 58: Narrated Ibn ‘Umar: Allah’s Apostle, (i: Sall Allahu alayhi wa alihi wa Salam), said, “Amongst the trees, there is a tree, the leaves of which do not fall and is like a Muslim. Tell me the name of that tree.” Everybody started thinking about the trees of the desert areas. And I thought of the date-palm tree but felt shy to answer. The others then asked, “What is that tree, O Allah’s Apostle ?” He replied, “It is the date-palm tree.” Volume 3, Book 34, Number 411: Narrated by Ibn ‘Umar (radiallaahu `anhu) I was with the Prophet (sall Allahu `alayhi wa alihi wa Salam) while he was eating spadix. He said, “From the trees there is a tree which resembles a faithful believer.” I wanted to say that it was the date palm, but I was the youngest among them (so I kept quiet). He added, “It is the date palm.” Date trees in alMadina alMunawwara Imam Mulla Ali alQari, Rahmat Allahi Ta'ala alayh, in Hizb alAdham, widely available has many duas from the Qur'an and Sunna. It is available in english with Arabic, please do find a copy. Imam Dardir, Rahmat Allahi Ta'ala alayh, says: The Statement of Islam contains within it Everything that has been mentioned above. (i: aqida text that proceeded). So invoke it frequently, with proper manners And you will rise by this invoking to the highest of ranks. Make your fear remain your hope And travel to your Lord without straying Renew your repentance for all sins But never despair from the mercy of the All-Forgiving Be thankful for His blessings And remain steadfastly patient when He sends trials For every matter is by His Decree and Destiny And there is no fleeing from destiny as it unfolds So submit in so that youare safe And follow the way of worshipful scholars Purify your heart from all otherness with striving; Standing in prayer in the depths of the night; Contemplation; constant remembrance; Consistently avoiding all sin; Be vigilant of Allah in all situations, In order to ascend to the stations of perfection (i: the following is a beautiful dua, so find the Arabic) Say, with abasement, “My Lord, don’t debar me From You with any barrier, and don’t withhold from me Your radiant secret that removes all blindness, And grant me a good ending, O Most Merciful! O Allaah! Protect me through your religion and the Sunnah of your Prophet from differing about the truth, and from following desires and the paths of misguidance, and from the Shubuhaat Al-Umoor –the affairs that are made to resemble truth but are falsehood in reality, and from deviation and (blameworthy) argumentation.” Ibraaheem At-Taymi [Kitaab Al-Itisaam of Imaam Ash-Shaatibee (rahimahullaah) page: 57] Najdis quote this dua for themselves.
Book Al Wazifa tul Karima by Aalahazrat alaihirrahma also has wazaaif and dua for safeguarding Iman and many other benefits like protection of life property parents. it is short and very useful
TKM = The Killer Mistake (a book) Surah Kafiroon being the lasts words you read before sleep, I read it in one of the Madani books.
we always hear/do du'a for ilm, amal, taqwa, rizq, children etc. but the biggest du'a must be: "ya Allah! safeguard my iman and give me death on iman on the path of ahlu's sunnah and for my parents, children, relatives and all sunnis."
