Brother AbdalQadir, mostly among urban Muslims, educated in secular universities with their admittedly broad mindsets, as they claim. I came across them from Pakistani, Indian, Bangladeshi, and even Sri Lankan Muslims involved in academia. Lots of old people who espouse western education for their children. Very common among immigrants from the Sub Continent to the west. When I asked the local Muslims in pakistani and Indian cities, they did not deny that they could have been prophets. May be it is the evil tv airing programs like 'Aman ki Asha' on Geo TV, day and night that have created such an environment. Have you come across this? I asked a Pashtun Shiite from Peshawar, settled in Punjab, about this, and he said, no, no, you cannot call hindus kuffar. That is not true. A punjabi electronics salesman, and an urdu speaking Bihari from Karachi, though an electrical engineer from the top enigineering school in that city, all agreed with him and jumped on me. I was taken aback by these Pakistanis. They all came from different cultures and ethnic backgrounds, but had the same mindset of being wary of calling a Hindu, a kafir. They were all immigrants to North America.
Dr Sayyid is the head of the Muslim Student Associations in North America. He is a frequent visitor to university campuses. He is also very strong in the inter-faith dialogue movement.
I think we should say that the leaders consciously working for the new Islam are worse than salafis. The commoner amateurs are just given open reign on their tongues and thought. It is commonly believed in the Sub Continent, that hindu dieties might have been prophets, that were diefied later. But they would not go as far as saying that they deserve ' alaihisalam. Fiqh of minorities has been in the Sunniport archives for a long time. It has been on ISNA's agenda for a long time.
This disease has begun tO afflict a lot of Muslims due to the confusing messages of the fake Sufis. People are claiming confucius as a pRoPhet possibly too. AQ is right when he says these ppl are much worse than salafis.
A friend was telling me of an aunty in the US who wrote an article in the local paper speculating that 'perhaps' ram might have been a prophet sent to india, and despite stating it was her own speculation, she went ahead and addressed him as "ram 3alaihis salam".
