of course i could just as well have chosen: 1. Masvani e Ma'anavi of Mawlana Rumi 2. Kulliyat e Iqbal 3. The Lord of the Rings and many other combinations!
1) some kind of survival guide 2) Encyclopedia Britannica (is this cheating?) 3) a comprehensive number theory text book. complete with famous unsolved unproven problems, to pass the time
Hans-Wehr; it is the best dictionary for beginners of the language, although it is lacking in technical/specialized vocabulary.
1) Quran with Tafsirul Jalalayn 2) Arabic-English Dictionary 3) Reliance of the Traveller (has aqidah, fiqh, tasawwuf, adab, a bit of everything)
Believe me IHya is certainly life! The Proof of Islam, the inheritor of our Master :sas: has passed down to us the life, the precious life of our Master :sas: that Allah ta'ala has promised us to have preserved until reckoning. I cannot imagine how close the Word of Allah comes closer to one's heart when one reads the IHya! I had chosen the same two books after the Qur'an al-Karim that Sidi Abu Hasan had chosen. subHanAllah!
i hope i can take more than three books - atleast in three figures. may Allah ta'ala never make us suffer such a calamity, but if i were to choose they'd be: the Qur'an al-karim [w. tafsir ibn kathir if counted as one] iHya ulum ad-din [w. it'Haf as-sadah if counted as one] iqadh al-himam fi sharH al-Hikam [one would be tempted to put in the fiqh books - ibn abidin or fatawa rizwiyyah, but when you are deserted and are alone, iHya is more important].
and had to take just 3 islamic books with you which ones would they be? 1. Kanz ul Iman fi Tarjamatul Qur'an by Ala Hazrat. 2. Muhammad by Martin Lings 3. Hadaiq e Bakhshish by Ala Hazrat
