    Masalah The Question:

What do the Scholars of the religion say about the issue of proclaiming Ya Muhammad (Sall Allahu a'laihi wa Aalihi wasallam ) is it permissible or not?

What is the ruling on the person who says “(that proclaiming) Ya Muhammad (sall Allahu a'laihi wa Aalihi wasallam) is haram (forbidden)”

    Al Jawaab The Answer:

To call upon the Prophet Muhammad sall Allahu a'laihi wa Aalihi wasallam using his pure name is not permissible. Allah A'zza wa Jall says in the Holy Qur’an:

(see the attachment below for the Arabic)

Make not the summoning of the Messenger among yourselves, like one calls the other among you”. Surah Nur Ayah 63 Ruku’ 5

Abu Nua'ym from Sayyiduna A’bdullah ibn A’bbas radi Allahu Ta'ala a'nhuma narrates the tafseer of this Ayah,

(see the attachment below for the Arabic)

“We used to say Ya Muhammad Ya Aba Qasim and Allah prohibited us from that out of the great respect of his Prophet (sall Allahu a'laihi wa Aalihi wasallam) say Ya Rasulullah (sall Allahu a'laihi wa Aalihi wasallam), Ya Nabi Allah (sall Allahu a'laihi wa Aalihi wasallam)”

Bayhaqi and Imam Aswad and Abu Nua'ym from Imam Hasan al Basri and Imam Saee’d ibn Jubayr radi Allahu Ta’ala a’nhum say that the tafseer of this Ayah is

(see the attachment below for the Arabic)

“do not say Ya Muhammad (sall Allahu a'laihi wa Aalihi wasallam) but say Ya Rasulullah (sall Allahu a'laihi wa Aalihi wasallam) or Ya Nabi Allah (sall Allahu a'laihi wa Aalihi wasallam) ”

The scholars say that if Ya Muhammad ( sall Allahu a'laihi wa Aalihi wasallam) is mentioned in a Dua’ then it should be replaced with Ya Rasulullah (sall Allahu a'laihi wa Aalihi wasallam).

If the questioners intention was to say that proclaiming Ya Muhammad (sall Allahu a'laihi wa Aalihi wasallam) is Haram forbidden than that is correct. The correct madhab is that this kind of proclamation is impermissible…

To call upon the Prophet Muhammad sall Allahu a'laihi wa Aalihi wasallam with his noble attributes is proven from the Ahadith and the sayings of the U’lama if you need further details then refer to Anwaar ul Intibah fi Hall Nida Ya Rasulullah (sall Allahu a'laihi wa Aalihi wasallam ) by Mujaddid Aa’zam Shaykh ul Islam Imam Ahmad Rida radi Allahu Ta'ala a'nhu. Allah Ta’ala knows best.
