Assalam alaikum, In a gathering of elder Sufis of Makkah, Abul-Qasim al-Junaid Ibn Muhammad Ibn Junaid al-Khazzaz, may Allah be Merciful to him, was asked to describe love. Tears came up in his eyes when he started saying: "The lover is a servant [of Allah] who departs from himself; who remembers Him constantly; who is busy in discharging his duties towards Him; who sees Him by heart; whose heart is set ablaze by the light of His Essence [Huwiyya]; who drinks a pure draught from the cup of His love; to whom the transcendent [al-Jabbar] reveals Himself from under the veils of transcendence [ghaybah]. If he speaks, it is by Allah [that he speaks]; if he discourses, it is Allah [that he discourses]; If he moves it is at Allah's Command; and if he is silent, it is with Allah." Hearing these words the Shaykhs burst out into tears and said: "May Allah comfort you, O Crown of Gnostics." Source: 'Al-Qushayri's Al-Risalah'-Pg. 623
