This is a topic I saw on another forum and thought it was interesting. There is a trend in the UK for nasheed artists to be adulated by young muslim women who shout and scream when their favourite artist comes on stage to perform. Especially Sami Yusuf (who is a v good singer and also v good looking and the girls obviously fancy him!). We are now getting Muslim groupies apparently for some of these singers.

Whether it is a good or bad thing I don't know since it is getting people interested in traditional islam--young people too and i don't think we should be harsh and judgemental (unlike some people on the other forum). I think this fusion of Western popular culture and Islam is the way Islam is going to go in the West; the end result will be an Islam which is truthful to the essential principles of tawhid and risalat but culturally European.

As long as we don't get knickers being thrown on to the stage we shouldn't worry*! [Those of you who cannot comprehend dry wit please don't accuse me of being liberal!]

    * I think that will happen--if it hasn't already. I've never been to such a naat/nasheed conference yet you see..
