a voice without instrumental music is called sima.the human voice accompanied with instrumental music is called ghina.ghina is haram according to unanimity of the ulama.
sima is permissible only for those who have turned towards Allahu taala and who know that everything is from Allahu taala.involuntary dancing is is called wajd, and voluntary dancing is tawjud.ther was sima in Hadrat Nizam ad Din Awliya's majlis but there was no musical instrument, there was not even the clapping of hands.
:s1: Thank you brother Abu Nibras for this link. Sayyid al Sa'adat Hazrat Pir Sayyid Mihr Ali Shah Golrawi qudsirruhu also was in favour of sama'. A request: please can we not refer to Ala Hazrat Imam Ahmad Rida Khan as "Imam Rida" because I believe there is quite a lot of scope for neutral readers to confuse this with Hadrat Sayyidina Imam Ali al Rida alayhisalam who is from amongst the 12 Imams of the Ahlul Bayt and is commonly referred to as Imam Rida. For Ala Hazrat we should (if we are abbreviating) just say Ala Hazrat or Imam Ahmad Rida. Sorry for being a pedant! Asif
Assalamo alaikum, there is a thorough debate on sama' in Madirj An-Nabuwwah Volume 1 by Imam Abdul Haq Muhadith Dehalvi. He discuesses all pro and con arguments for permissiblity of sama' with and without musical instruments and finally says that music is not permitted.
<center> A Discussion on the Permissibility of "Sam`a" by Bahr ul Uloom Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Qadeer Siddiqi rahimahullah ( www.hasrat.com ) Note :Contrary to Imam Ahmed Rida Khan, his opinion is lenient towards the usage of instruments. wassalam, abu Nibras
