AbdalQadir time to move along! will check pm's.

what is the guy's problem really?

the sanad itself of the hadith causes him anxiety?

or he doesn't find the event believable/possible in principle?

if it's about the rational possibility or the believability of the event, sans sanad, then what does he have to say to the narration of the miracle of the crying tree trunk, from Bukhari, and known by near tawatur? that's the first thing that came to my mind when i thought about this salafi guy's objection

the criticised narration of ibn Hibban is one.

    ---
there are other routes as allamah ali al-qari has noted:

the story of ya'fur was mentioned other than qaDi 'iyaD

    - suhayli in his rawD via ibn furak in kitab al-fuSul

    - suhayli added: al-juwayni in his kitab al-shamil mentioned more details:
whenever the Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wa sallam wished to see a companion, he would send this donkey; the donkey would go to the door of the summoned companion and knock with its head. when the person came out of his house, he would immediately understand that he was sent by RasulAllah sallAllahu alayhi wa sallam (and hence proceeded to meet him).

in another narration: when the summoned companion came out of his house, the donkey would indicate to him to answer the Prophet's call. sallAllahu alayhi wa sallam.

    - ibn asakir from ibn manZur similar to the above and said this is an uncommon narration (gharib) and the chain has unknown narrators (maj'hulin)

    - abu nu'aym from mua'dh ibn jabal as has mentioned earlier.

    Allah ta'ala knows best.

    ===
the sum total of the narration is that the donkey's behaviour is a miracle of the prophet. only a wahabi's feverish imagination leads him to think that people will begin to worship donkeys because of this - al-iyadhu billah.

    morons.

in the narration of ibn hibban - as mentioned by ibn Hajar in fat'h al-bari is "sixty donkeys in my line have been ridden by prophets".

    ---
in fact, it is also said that ya'afur died on the day RasulAllah sallAllahu alayhi wa sallam left for Hajj (the farewell pilgrimage); imam nawawi insisted that this is the case.

the narration has been mentioned by various scholars - and among them one of the specific narration via ibn hibban has been severely criticised due to its apparently outlandish claims.

regardless, it is not a matter of aqidah and is mentioned among the miracles of the Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wa sallam.

    ---
numerous scholars have mentioned it - including ibn Hajar. wahabis are quick to highlight ibn Hajar citing the comment of ibn Hibban that the sanad has no value (laysa bi shayy).

qadi iyad mentioned this in shifa
    suhayli in rawD
    halabi in insan al-uyun
    damiri in hayat al Haywan
    munawi in fayD al-qadir
suyuti in khasa'is al-kubra (comment of ibn arraq al-kanani in tanzih al-shariah will come shortly)
    bajuri in sh. shamayil muhammadiyah
tawDih sh. bukhari of ibn mulaqqin
umdatu'l qari of ayni (same as ibn Hajar; mentioned a narration without rejecting it outright; and also cited jarh of ibn hibban).

and many other scholars have mentioned it.

mulla ali al-qari in sharh al-shifa:

even if it is a weak hadith, where is the need to act as if your eeman depends on it? it is mentioned as a miracle and move on.

only wahabis have tiny constricted hearts in that they will fight against even sahih hadith when it is about the greatness of RasulAllah sallAllahu alayhi wa sallam. look at the preposterous ta'wils they make for sahih hadith. it is not surprising they will be vociferous when it is a weak and criticised narration.

    Asalam wa alaikam @abu Hasan

A Salafi from my university showed me this clip of Pir Saaqib narrating a story about a donkey killing himself at the passing the Prophet peace be upon him.

He stated that this narration was deemed as a fabrication by ibn Hajar Asqalani, Suyuti, Ibn Kathir, ibn iraqi, ibn Jawzi and Ibn Hibban.

I tried my best to do research to find any scholars of hadith to authenticate this story but I couldn't find anything.

Is there any basis to this story and how should I respond to the salafi guy?
