thats a billion dollar post by ottomanhanafi

he has mentioned the stuff i was trying to waffle about in my previous post in this thread

Sheikh Ilyas Attar Qadri hafizdhahullaah is one of the few Sunni scholars who has prioritised many things in Sunni-ism properly for us, above and beyond the "Sunnis just for Giyarwinh" routine... he is one of the few people who can be called a TRUE inheritor of Ala Hazrat and indeed other Sunni 'ulema

Personally, I don't have much exposure to desiland and their 'ulema, but I think after Mufti A'zdham hind, he is the next great sheikh.

disclaimer: i don't have an itch against Giyarwinh and Quran Khwani and Na't Khwani and other "extras" but as per Ala Hazrat's reiterating the basic "Sunni common sense" concept in his own fatwas, doing nawafil without focusing on faraid is sheer jahalah... i DO have an itch against maulwis who address Allah as "uparwala" and are engrossed in a bunch of non-Sunni stuff without calling people to the rightly prioritized matters of the deen, but they won't miss a Giyarwinh or Yaume Ala Hazrat and their share of the halwa and murgha for the world!

sister read their books on their website

they have many proofs against wahabi-ism with references from Quran & Sunnah

although you may be right about the muballigheen not being full fledged 'aalims

Sheikh Ilyas too in his talks gives references, although I know a lot of Sunnis do not care about spreading Sunni-ism the way wahabis work like in their dawah... you might have heard just the wrong talks

Dawate Islami is one of the few organizations that has at least taken the initiative... and they need to be encouraged

Re Dawate Islami of all the Sunni orgainsations they are staunch sunnis in that they do all the mahafil etc but they focus on the basics. Ameer e ahle Sunnat is surely blessed because through him literally millions have come back to the deen and they adhere steadfastly to salah and sunnat which is devoid amongst other sunnis. I think of all the shuyukh he is actually worthy of all the titles bestowed to him. Yes in terms of defending our 'aqeedah he can't reelof references but he definetely knows how to instill fear of akhirah amongst the masses and focusses on something sunnis are often accused of lacking which is the basics.
  4. Bismillah...

Siti Hayaa', out of interest, why do you need to study the refutations of the Ibn 'Abdul-Wahhabi's? I ask this becuase generally scholars start with Fard 'Ayn before moving on to Fard Kifayah and as we know it is not mandatory to use refernces. Look at the works of the Madhhahib. In most books on Furu' you will find hardly any references yet they are backed up when we actually go and check...

An example of what I am saying can be illustrated in the following: When studying Fiqh, would you memorize each vidence of each Hukm? If yes, it would probably take you a year or more to get through the 'Ibadaat. So what we do is learn the proofs for the Usul, realize that they the Furu' really are derived from these by going through a few examples and then get on with mastering the Furu'.

These days, those well-educated in the secular sense get caught up in the DIY Islam thing. I will just list one of their arguments and demonstrate the shallowness of thought:

They say: You follow Imam ash-Shafi'i (for example). How does he know all the Ahadith? And if you follow him while awair of a Sahih Hadith contrary to the Madhhab, then you are mistaken following the Imam.

I say: The Muqallidin of a given Madhhab are not making Taqlid of 1 Imam. Rather the Imam played a significant role in developing the Usul - Method of understanding the source texts (for example "what to do with the Athaar of the Sahabah"). They studied with many of the greatest teachers of their times and had many students who revised the Usul and if they found a Hadith (for example) not yet incorporated into the Madhhab, they would analyze it according to the Usul and act accordingly. This happened century after century for at around 1000 + years.

Thus the Madhhab incorporates ALL the Ahadith in a systematic manner. Ignoring 1000+ years of the cross-generational co-orporation from a civilisation whose very topic of enduring interest was the science of Islam is a very stupid thing to do. Off course this does not eliminate questioning but I guarantee you, ask a question about evidences and the scholars have definately already dealt with it unless the topic was not around at the time.

By the way, here are a great set of articles on Ibn 'Abdul-Wahhabis:

QUOTE=AbdalQadir. right now Dawate Islami women's ijtima's are doing a great job of educating sisters

Brother AbdalQadri, I've attend many Dawat e Islami womens programs. They are very good in Naaths but their alimas still have no knowledge of Quran and Hadith. I didn't hear any hadiths frm their alimas even when I asked them questions and proofs.

Then I was given tapes by Maulana Ilyas Qadri and thought that he is Ameer e Ahl e Sunnat so must be knowledgable. Some brothers were praising him to the sky. I was dissapointed because he too could not quote a single hadith with references. He is surely doing something right because people are following him but his talks could never defend Sunni aqidah against Wahabis because they ask for references from Quran and Hadith.

If you attended one lecture by Shaikh Babikar or Hadhrat Yazdani, you would never Bother to listen to Maulana Ilyas Qadris talks. They quote Quran, hadith and scholars, this book, that book while our Ameer e Ahle Sunnat can't. It's just all hype like the Peer Sab on one TV channel. It's all very upsetting. But then the objection of learning frm men comes in so we can't learn from Shaikh Babikar or Shaikh Yazdani. So what are we supposed to do? That is why many sisters are just joining w***, D*** and HT circles. They are getting married, converting their husbands and their children.

There gatherings are too far for me anyway.
  6. Lol Sidi Abu Hasan. I think the message was that we all are thinking what you are thinking Sidi AbdalQadir but we should try and do something practical about it

Very interesting points rasied by bro AQ.............

This is something we Sunnis should be proud of, No??

I for one rate anyone that has been able to withstand pressures from deviant sects to give this all up. All these rituals/offerings/events are an important part of our Deen, in my humble opinion............Simply importing and maintaining these traditions (from the heartland of Indo_pak) into the West is in itself a major accomplishment and should be emphasised, so that this is not lost and forgotten.

Don't get me wrong have raised valuable points. I just thought I'd add my penny's-worth in :)

right now Dawate Islami women's ijtima's are doing a great job of educating sisters

but otherwise, it is true to a great extent how our women are just bombarded with old wives tales in the name of "knowledge" of deen

THAT however, does not mean we let them seek fake "knowledge" (wahabiism)... thats just like saying since we don't have Sunni 'aalima's we might as well let them learn from just anything from just anywhere, be it shia or wahabi or anyone

but then what makes you think our brothers are half way educated

you'd be lucky to pick a random "Sunni" commoner male who even knows what Aqidah Tahawi is!

of all the sects, Sunnis, shias, wahabis, deobandis, OUR sheeple are the least educated about their maslak, be it male or female

a lot of it is attributed to local mullah's abusing the name of Ala Hazrat and other awliyaa only to run their shops for people to get involved in sub-knowledgeable politics and polemical bashing of deobandis and who ever else... there are desi Sunnis who think Malwed and Urs and Giyarhwinh are a part of aqidah... stories of karamaat of awliyaa are exaggerated with mirch and masala and what not without any knowledge being given about correct Sunni aqidah, let alone mentioning that supernatural events are not the deciding factor for a person's aqidah being right or wrong (after all, dont we believe the cursed dajjaal will also be granted supernatural events by Allah's Creating)...

it seems Giyarhwih and Chehlum and Fatiha-khwani and na't khwani and other such events with extravagant servings of chargah and biryani and khichrha and halwa and zarda are the corner stones of modern day Sunni-ism, and these are welcome with open arms by local maulvis.

so what if proper purdah is not administered in some of those gatherings, so what if the rest of the time they're busy watching bollywood trash riddled with kufr and shirk, so what if the sheeple and their children are pathetic at their pronunciation and tajweed of the Quran, so what if the women folk don't even know the BASIC rules about their monthlies and postnatal's, so what if in a crowd of 200, barely 5 people wouldn't know the basics of the REAL Sunni aqidah, so what if the sheeple go back home from these gatherings with pretentious attitudes as if they have become instant awliyaa, so what if so many of the people attending such gatherings are only yapping away to glory - point any of this out and you're a wahabi

i was shocked to hear a respectable na't khwan in the community in a western country define "Sunni" as "jo sun ke musulman hua ho" (someone who became a Muslim by hearing; maybe he meant hearing the message of Islam, Allau a'lam)... this guy was dead serious and was answering a question to a visiting scholar from desiland who was just testing the people's knowledge for some trivia... now this guy (the na't khwan) is a major na't and salam reciter in that area and a right hand man of the local maulvi of the community

we are way behind on education (myself included) of proper Sunni-ism in terms of aqidah and fiqh, but alhamdulillah it seems it is changing now with more awareness being raised by some good TV channels and a few responsible scholars and organizations like Dawate Islami and others, but we have a long way to go, even for the men folk

trust me, the men are not as privileged as you think they are in terms of religious knowledge

She has benefitted women by giving them hidayat. Are you sure she is a Maududi? In the video, she sounds like a Sunni.

Look, there are very few Sunni alimas. We only have village aunty's who lecture here and there. They usually don't know anything.

Where are sisters supposed to go if they don't learn from Salafis? Families/husbands don't usually allow their women to learn from men. A lot of sisters who have wanted to study have gone to South African Darulums which are all Dewbandi. Where are the Sunni alimas?

I never liked the apparent arrogance and sanctimonious nature of this lady! Thumbs up to Host Zaidi, who didn't give 2 hoots about her job, izzat, what ppl might say about her and left the set after the break! May Allah Azzawajal reward her abundantly for her strength of imaan and love of Ya Rasulallah Salallahu alaihi wasallam! Aameen.
