So I just stumbled across this youtube channel, TCM originals that contain interesting short clips in Urdu with English subtitles. Is anyone aware of something similar? I find them quite useful.
That's the problem in UK where most Pakistanis speak Punjabi or Mirpuri. I speak urdu with the Pakistanis I come across and many of them reply back to me in Punjabi or Mirpuri which becomes difficult for me to understand (can make out bits). And this is the older generation that I am talking about who have migrated from Pakistan and can't speak urdu properly, the younger ones pick from their parents and can hardly speak any urdu. So I face the exact opposite problem to you!
I do read naat, listen to lectures etc. But when it comes to constructing simple sentences, my brain will revert to mirpuri/english. Never get an opportunity in England to practise Urdu day to day.
listen to owais naat and repeat after him. especially alahazrat's naats. if you need help with pronunciation of certain words you can ask here. --- listen to speakers like madani miyan, dawate islami speakers, and repeat after them. that is the best way to learn the language. or so i think.
Just search the reviews of the people on there bro-think you can also have a taster session for half price. If it's just to have speaking practice, I wouldn't go for a qualified teacher, I would use a community tutor instead as they're cheaper and I don't see that you would need a curriculum as such- just actual speaking practice. Italki is good, I recommend it.
Can anyone recommend a tutor for general conversational urdu? I can read/write/understand Urdu to some extent but have the speaking ability of a 1 year old Would appreciate some guidance. Been looking into italki but there's so many tutors to use from.
