Saraapa e Ghaws: Physical Description of Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jilani - by Ala Hazrat Imam Ahmed Raza

Mujaddid e Deen o Millat, Hazrat Imam Ahmed Raza Khan was requested by Maulana Mahmood JaaN, to write (in poetic form), the description of great Ghaws, the King of the Saints, Syeduna Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jilani (radi Allahu ta'ala anhu).

Ala Hazrat wrote this beautiful Nazm, along with the supplication; however, this is not available in Hadaaeq.

I was contacted by Shaykh Abdul Haadi sahab (from South Africa), to translate it into English, so that he could include it in his forthcoming translation of "Bahjat ul Asraar".

سراپاے نورانی شاہ جیلانی محبوب ربّانی

الحمد لله و على حبيبه الكريم وأله الصلاة و التسليم

THE EMBODIMENT OF LIGHT, THE KING OF JEELAN, THE BELOVED OF ALLAH.

1322 Hijri

ALL PRAISE TO ALLAH; BLESSINGS AND SALUTATIONS UPON ALLAH’S BELOVED, THE NOBLE PROPHET, & UPON THE PROPHET’S PROGENY.


حمد حق، نعت نبی، توصیف غوث، بعد ازاں سن طالب تعریف غوث

Allah’s Praise, the Prophet’s eulogy and a tribute of the Ghaws; after these, O seeker, hear the attributes of the Ghaws!

غوث اعظم کے فدائی، کان لا، ذکر شہ ہے، نذر شہ کو جان لا

O the devotee of the Ghaws, be attentive, come closer; this is the King’s remembrance, for him bring your life as an offer!

حلیہ اقدس کہ عین نور ہے، بہجت الاسرار میں مذکور ہے

A manifestation of light, his holy appearance is such; in “Bahjat ul Asraar”, it is recorded as such!

ترجمہ ترتیب دار اس کا لکھوں، گوہر منثور کو لڑیوں میں لوں

So I pen its translation in its proper order; and string the precious gems into proper order.

وہ مبارک نثر ہو نثرہ نثار، یہ ثریا نظم ہو شعری شعار

May prose be sacrificed upon that holy scroll; may this lofty poem become a famous symbol.

كان شيخنا شيخ السلام محي الدين أبو محمد عبد القادر الجيلي رضي الله تعالى عنه

HE IS OUR SHAYKH, SHAYKH ULISLAM, MOHIYUDDIN ABU MOHAMMED, ABD ALQADIR ALJEELI - MAY ALLAH BE PLEASED WITH HIM


نحيف البدن

SLENDER BODIED

وہ اکہرا جسم نازک خوش نما، وہ نحافت میں نزاکت کی ادا

The angular body, thin, and beautiful; the slender body, with a conduct so graceful.

جس پہ وارین خلد میں اپنی پھبن، یاسمیں، نسریں، سمن گل نبسترن

Upon which sacrifice in heaven, their beauty; the flowers of Jasmine, Jonquil, Orchid and Lilly.


ربع قامه عريض صدر

OF MODERATE HEIGHT, WIDE CHESTED

قد میانہ سرو باغ مصطفیٰ، سینہ چوڈہ صحن باغ اصفیا

Of moderate height, a cypress in the garden of Mustafa; the wide chest a courtyard of the gardens of Asfiya.

کیوں نہ ہو سینہ کشادہ دلکشا، حاشیہ ہے شرح صدر شاہ کا

Why would not the chest be wide, pleasing to see? On the exegesis of the King’s heart, it is a commentary!


عريض اللحية طويلها

HAVING WIDE AND LONG BEARD

ہے عریض ان کی محاسن اور طویل، ہیں جزیل ان کے محاسن اور طویل

His beard is wide and long; his hairs are strong, and long.

عرض و طول ریش وافر باوقار، طول عرض سائلاں کے ذمہ دار

The width and length of beard, thick and stately; responsible for lengthy applications of the needy.


أسمر اللون

LIGHT BROWN, WHEAT COLORED SKIN

اسمر اللوں ان کی رنگت گندمی، خوبی حسن و ملاحت سے بھری

His complexion is light brown, wheat like; filled with beauty and enduringly attractive.

گندمی رنگت سہانی دل کشا، وہ سنہرا پھول باغ نور کا

A light-wheat complexion, beautiful, a spectacle of delight; such is the golden flower of the garden of light.


مقرون الحاجبين

WITH JOINT EYE-BROWS

ابرو ے پیوستہ کی دل کش بہار، سو ہلال عید ہوں جس پر نثار

The joint eyebrows are a spring blossom, so nice; upon it a hundred Eid crescents I would sacrifice!

دونوں ماہ عید کی یکجا ہے دید، لو مبارک قادریوں عید عید

Combined is the spectacle of the two crescents of Eid; O Qadiris! Congratulations of Eid upon Eid.

شاد شاداں جان و دل قرباں کرو، جان کہنہ دے کے جان تازہ لو

O the happy ones, sacrifice your hearts and lives; give up the tired ones, and gain fresh lives.

شام تک عید مہ نو ہے تمام، یہ مہ جاوید ہے عید دوام

The Eid of the new moon lasts only until the evening; this new moon is lasting, the Eid is everlasting.


أدعج ألعينين

HAVING CAPTIVATING EYES

أجعد العينين ہے وصف مبیں، یعنی آنکھیں ہیں بڑی اور سرمگیں

The captivating eyes is an attribute distinct; which means the eyes are large, with black tint.

کیا بڈائی ان بڈی آنکھوں کی ہو، جو عیاں دیکھیں رسول الله کو

How can one praise those great eyes? For clearly seen is the Messenger of Allah by those eyes!

کیا بڈی الله اکبر آنکھ ہے، دید اکبر سے مکبر آنکھ ہے

Allahu Akbar! How great is the eye! Blessed with the great spectacle is the eye!

وہ خدا بیں بندہ پرور آنکھ واہ، مصطفیٰ بیں فیض گستر آنکھ واہ

It beholds the Lord and compassionate for the slave is the eye! It beholds Mustafa, reflecting the beneficence is the eye!

قدرتی بے سرمہ آنکھیں سرمگیں، باغ ما زاغ البصر سے خوشہ چیں

Without antimony, naturally dark are the eyes; from the garden of “the sight did not waver” benefit the eyes.


زأ صوت جهوري

HAVING RESONANT VOICE

جھوری الصوت خوش اندازہ ہے، وہ بلند آوا بلند آوازہ ہے

Resonant and pleasing to hear is his voice; high ranking, with words of high import is the voice.


و سمت بهي و قدر علي و علم وفي

WITH MAJESTIC HEAD, OF HIGH ESTEEM AND FIRM KNOWLEDGE

ہے عجب روشن روش رتبہ رفیع، علم والا کامل و پاک و وسیع

Amazing is his high stature, radiant is his stride; his crown is large, complete, pure and erudite.


رضي الله تعالى عنه

MAY ALLAH BE PLEASED WITH HIM

بعد جد اس جود پر صبح و شام، سو دردیں سو تحیت سو سلام

After his ancestor, upon this generosity all mornings and evenings; hundreds of blessings, and salutations and peace greetings.

اس سراپا نور پر بعد رسول، سر سے پا تک ہو دردوں کا نزول

After the Messenger, upon this light’s embodiment; from head to toe may blessings descend.

بے عدد بے انتہا بے حد مدام، تا ابد ہر آن ہر لحظہ دوام

Without count, without end, infinite, lasting forever; until eternity, at every moment, at all times forever.


دعا

PRAYER

یا الہی اس سراپا کے لئے، قادریوں پر تری رحمت رہے

O Allah! For the sake of his entity; may Your mercy be upon every Qadiri.

تیری رافت حفظ ہر آفت سے ہو، ان سے جو کچھ کام ہو رافت سے ہو

From every calamity, may Your compassion be their protection; may all the works they do, be with compassion.

زندگی بھر ناز و نعمت میں پلیں، بعد مردن ظل عزت میں چلیں

May they be blessed with prosperity and favours all life; and walk in the shade of respect, in the after-life.

جب گروہوں کی پکار اس جا پڑے، یہ پکارے جائیں ان کے نام سے

When the groups are summoned on the day of resurrection; may the Qadiris be called with his designation.

ان کی دعوت میں ہو شامل ان کا نام، يوم ندعو كل ناس بالإمام

When he is called upon, may they be with their leader; “On the day when We shall summon every group along with the leader”!

یہ رضا اور اس کے احباب اقربا، سب انہیں میں پائیں رضوان و رضا

May this slave Raza, his friends and every family member; being among the Qadiris, find paradise and Your good pleasure.

ان میں ہوں ان میں رہیں ان میں مریں، ان میں اٹھیں عیش خلد ان میں کریں

May they be Qadiris, remain such, and die as Qadiris; rise up as Qadiris, and enjoy Paradise amongst Qadiris.

جیتے جی بندہ غلام شاہ ہو، بعد مردن ان کی خاک راہ ہو

May the bondman whilst alive be a slave of the King; after death be the dust on the path of the King.

وہ محرک نظم کے محمود جاں، سید والا حسب صالح جواں

The initiator of this poem is Mahmoud JaaN; the Sayyed, of noble descent, the virtuous young man.

وہ بھی ہوں مسعود تن، محمود جاں، میں بھی ہوں محمود تن مسعود جاں

May he be fortunate, with a praiseworthy life; may I also become praiseworthy, with a fortunate life.

يا إله الحق أجب قولي أجب، استجب الله أكبر استجب

O the Truthful Lord, accept my saying, please accept! Accept my prayer, O Allah the Greatest, accept!
