I'm not arguing about the merit/demerit of executions. There is divine wisdom in capital punishment, provided it is meted with full justice. I have no doubt that in the absence of such punishments, crime graph would head north.

What galls me is the frequency with which western media & intelligentsia highlight 'barbaric' practices of Muslim world, while ignoring similar acts in Western world or China. Why does media have "different standards"? I provided the AI factfile, just in case some us get ambushed on this issue by a 'progressive'.

  3. it seems you guys have different standards for the West and the Islamic countries...

While Saudi kingdom's prejudiced treatment of poor and immigrants must be condemned, did you know that China, where executions are a state secret, is the world's most prolific state executioner with 1,860 (i.e. 35 a week) sentenced to death and 470 (i.e. 9 a week) executed last year?

In total at least 1,252 people were executed in 24 countries last year, 3,347 sentenced to death in 51 countries and some 27,500 people were now on death row globally.

Second to China was Iran with 317 executions, followed by Saudi Arabia on 143, Pakistan on 135 and the United States (world's most progressive country!) on 42. Between them, these five countries accounted for 88% of all known executions.

Can quite easily believe this. If you ever hear the stories ppl tell you when they come back from Hajj/Umrah, they often state how badly the poor immigrant workers are treated out there!

Paid pittance for jobs like cleaning etc, etc, etc..........
