2-4 are simply superstitions. 1 is quite obvious for many reasons such as it is easy to trim in day light and it is very difficult to notice where nails are falling. 2 can be regarded as bad manner, and you may hurt the person if you stumble, but it has nothing to do with physical growth.

obviously, i don't believe in superstitions but there are some things that have been prohibited in the hadith such as the weak narrations about cutting nails on wednesdays etc. and unlike before, i don't always dismiss such things until i know they are baseless.

eg. shaykh yaqubi once said that our elders will do things which we don't understand but when we learn more, we will see their origin. such as him seeing his elders cover glasses of water at night. he then read a hadith that calls for this as there is a night in the year when calamities are sent down so we should cover our food.

can someone shed light on these:

    1. cutting nails at night
    2. walking over someone [we should walk around them instead], otherwise they won't grow
    3. opening and closing scissors will cause fights
    4. don't let babies look in mirrors

there's so many more but i can't remember now. it might be an idea to list genuine actions so that we can dismiss the rest.
