actually, i tried to search various editions of musnad i have with me, but the #13886 remained elusive. i suppose back then, i have used some typed text (cannot remember where i got this reference). --- however, being musnad, it is easier to locate a hadith (in this case, this should be found in musnad jabir) and narrated by ibn ulayyah. it is #14406 in shu'ayb arnaut edition,
nas'alu Allaha al-aafiyah. while searching for something, i stumbled upon this old post. dated oct 2005. these are dalayil al-nubuwwah. RasulAllah sallAllahu alayhi wa sallam foretold of these happenings. and we see them all around us. from gay marriages (inconceivable just a century ago) to interest to tall buildings to mindless killings to an increase in children out of wedlock to muslims imitating the kitabis to many other events. la Hawla wa la quwwata illa billah.
note: apparently there are gross typos in the copy of 'An-Nihāyah' that i have. corrections have been made after looking up the sources (Muslim, Musnad Imam Ahmed) it is also possible that it might be taş’ĥīf. Allah ta'ala knows best Muslim reports a ĥadīth from Nufayr ibn Sahl [1] who reports from his father who narrates from Abū Hurayrah that RasūlAllāh şallAllāhu álayhi wa sallam said: ‘Iraq shall be embargoed and prevented from its currency and trade; Syria shall be embargoed and prevented from its currency and trade; Egypt shall be embargoed and prevented from its currency and trade. You shall return to whence you have started. You shall return to whence you have started. You shall return to whence you have started.’ Abū Hurayrah has witnessed this [being said] in his flesh and blood. -- Imām Ahmed said: Ismāýīl narrated us from Al-Ĥarīrī [2] who narrates from Abū Nuşrah [3] who said: ‘We were with Jābir when he said: ‘Nigh are the people of Iraq such that no money or trade shall reach them.’ We asked: ‘From where will this [blockade] be?’. He replied: ‘From the Romans; they shall embargo this.’ Then he was silent for a while and said, ‘RasūlAllāh şallAllāhu álayhi wa sallam said: “There shall be a Khalīfah in the last times, who shall give away wealth [in charity] without even counting it”’ Al-Ĥariri says: I asked Abū Nuşrah and Abu’l Álā’a whether it was Úmar ibn Ábd al-Ázīz. Both of them said ‘No.’ [4] [Muslim-2896; Abū Dāwūd-3035; Musnad Imām Ahmed: 2/262; An-Nihāyah fi’l Fitani wa’l Malāĥim, Ibn Kathīr, vol.1, pg.53] ---- Footnotes: Notice that the words ‘currency’ and ‘measure’ are metonymies which can be easily interpreted as frozen assets and trade sanctions. ‘Roman’ is a metonymy that means either ‘christians’ or in our times ‘western nations’. 'You shall return to whence you started': Imam Nawawi says that it is explained in another ĥadīth: ‘Islam began in an unfamiliar and quaint fashion; and it shall return to the way it was when it began.' Glad tidings to those who are aliens’ [bada’ al-islāmu gharīban, wa sa yaúūdu kama bada'a.] The text of the ĥadīth says: ‘mana-áti’l írāqu dirhamahā wa qafīzahā wa mana-áti’sh shāmu mudya-hā wa dīnārahā wa mana-át mişru irdabahā wa dīnārahā wa údtum min ĥaythu bada’atum; wa údtum min ĥaythu bada’atum; wa údtum min ĥaythu bada’atum’ qafiz: iraqi measure mudd: syrian measure irdab: egyptian measure Literal translation: Iraq shall be prevented from its dirham and its qafiz (its measure, an allegory indicating trade); Sham (or mainly Syria) shall be prevented from its dinar and its mudd (levantine measure); Egypt will be prevented from its irdab (egyptian measure) and it dinar. Ye shall revert [to the state] just as you have begun; Ye shall revert [to the state] just as you have begun; Ye shall revert [to the state] just as you have begun. 1. This is how it is in Ibn Kathīr’s book; however, I found the chain in Muslim and Abū Dāwūd both, thusly: “Narrated to us Úbayd ibn Yaýīsh and Is-ĥāq ibn Ibrāhīm who both said: ‘Yaĥyā ibn Ādam ibn Sulaymān, the freedman [mawla] of Khālid ibn Khālid narrated to us from Zuhayr who narrates from Suhayl ibn Abū Şāliĥ from his father:” 2. In 'An-Nihayah' it says Al-Ĥariri whereas in Musnad Imam Ahmed it is 'Al-Jurayri'. 3. In 'An-Nihayah' it says Abū Nuşrah whereas in Musnad Imam Ahmed it is 'Abu Nađrah' 4. The whole hadith seems poorly quoted. Here is the quote from the Musnad itself: Imām Ahmed said: Ismāýīl [Ibn Úlayyah] narrated us from Al-Jurayrī who narrates from Abū Nađrah who said: ‘We were with Jābir when he said: ‘Nigh are the people of Iraq such that no money or trade shall reach them.’ We asked: ‘From where will this [blockade] be?’. He replied: ‘From the Ájamis [Non-Arabs]. They will block it’. And then he said, ‘Nigh are the people of Shām (Syria) such that no money or trade shall reach them.’ We asked: ‘From where will this [blockade] be?’. He replied: ‘From the Romans; they shall embargo this.’ Then he was silent for a while and said, ‘RasūlAllāh şallAllāhu álayhi wa sallam said: “There shall be a Khalīfah in the last times, who shall give away wealth [in charity] without even counting it”’ Al-Jurayri says: I asked Abū Nađrah and Abu’l Álā’a whether it was Úmar ibn Ábd al-Ázīz. Both of them said ‘No.’ [Musnad Imām Ahmed, 13886] It is quite possible that it is an entirely different narration with a minor transposition of words.
