Dear members : Assalaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmathullahi wa barakaathuhu

    As far I know :-

Ilah is the term used to denote one who is fit to be worship.

The attributes of Uloohiyath ( the capability to fulfill ones needs) which are exhibited by the creations are not of their own but they belong only to Allah. Thus implies Allah is the only Ilah.

    1. Zaath – The Essence
(‘Huwal Hayyul Khayyoom’ – He is the living, the self-subsisting –
    Al-Qur’an 2:256).

    2. Sifathe kamila (The perfect attributes).
('Lahul asma’ul husna' To Him belongs the beautiful names 17:111)

    3. Afaal - Exhibtion of powers
( 'la kuwwatha illa billah' There is no power but the power of Allah
    18:40)

    4. Azaar. - Milkiyath
('lahu-al-mulk-al-samawathi wa-al-arl' To Him belongs what is in the
    land and the skies 10:69).

But is it not mandatory to honor, the ones which are been ordered by Allah and Rasoolullahi Sallallaahu AlaihiWasallam.?
We have to obey and respect our parents, failing what is the use of our prayers after prayers (Ibaadath) – Allah and Rasool never cares, We have to respect and honour all our Prophets, We ought to honour Qur’an and all other holy books of Allah, we ought to respect Awlias of Allah, Imaams, Ulemmas Elders, Mecca, Medina, Baithul Muqaddus, Arafa, Mustalifa, Safa, Marwa, Zam Zam , Lailathul Qadr, Ramadan, Jummah etc etc.

It was Shaithaan who disobeyed Allah long before these kind of salafis came into existence, “I am superior than Adam(alai) was the claim done by Shaithan.”
How Moosa (Alaihiwassalam) got Nubuwwath and Towraath from Allah? What actually he saw, just a tree from where he listened to Allah. Now with the same measure Who spoke from Rasoolullahi Sallallahu Alaihiwassalam ? The term “Tajalli” has to be understood. There is vast difference between "Ibaadhath" and Respecting or Honouring. "Anishkuruni wali waalidhaik" Thank Me and Thank Your Parents, is an order from Allah, "Athiullah wa Athiurrasool" Obey Me and obey my Rasool, is also an order from Allah.
    wassalaam.

brother, try to dissociate the issues and first try to understand the salafi argument. moreover you are trying to prove upside-down.

    the argument is not that intercessors CANNOT be wajib, hence intercession is permissible;

the point of contention is: 'intercession is like worship; hence intercessors are not permissible' fa'afham wAllahu a'alam.

from the verse: 'and they worship that other than Allah which neither gives them harm or benefit; and they say: 'these are our intercessors' near Allah'

the salafi does not dispute that al-Ilah is wajibu'l wujud - you don't need any reference for that. tell them and they will believe it. their problem is that you are considering others or mumkin similar to wajib; or you are taking men who are mumkin to be similar to al-Ilah or Allah or wajibu'l wujud.

the fallacy in their argument is that they do not differentiate between two meanings of intercession and they equate us to the polytheists and their heathen gods. they quote this above ayah and say:

    1. the polytheists worshipped their heathen gods
    2. they called them intercessors
    3. yet, this is shirk/polytheism as it is refuted in the qur'an
    4. you take intercessors
    5. it is like worshipping them
    6. therefore it is shirk

    --------------------------------------------------------------------

you are mixing up things. a heathen can ask:
    1. how can a ya`uq [the idol] who is dependent on Allah be wajibu'l wujud?

    2. how can a ya`uq who was brought into existence and has the possibility of existing and not existing be wajibu'l wujud?

    3. therefore ya`uq is not wajibu'l wujud.

    4. since ya`uq is not wajibu'l wujud, certainly taking ya`uq as an intercessor is not taking him as al-ilah.

    5. therefore what we do is not wrong.

    a'audhubillah.

But Habibi if point 1 is:

    1) Ilah is a diety that is Wajibul Wujud

How can you get to point 2:

    2) bringing in an intercessor is like considering them al-ilah.

    As Point 2, cannot exist unless the Intercessor is Wajibul Wujud, for which the following objections arise;

    1) How can a Intercessor dependant on Allah be Wajibul-Wujud?

    2) How can a Intercessor who was bought into existance and has the possibilty of existing and not existing be Wajibul Wujud?

So do you see how they cannot make such a claim?

Let me try stating this like this:

The Mushrikeen of Macca or all the Mushrikeen that are refered to in the Ayah's denouncing them for Shirk, regarded those whom they called upon as Wajibul-Wujud.

That is that they believed they existed Independantly, that they were not created and that they were Partners with Allah, and that they could Independantly cause benefit or Harm to those that called upon them.

Thus this is how they have took those whom they called upon as Ilah's.

    Sidi.
I was reading al budur al baaziqa by shah Waliullah dehlawi(Rahmatullahi Alayhi).
He has a chapter on shirk.
In it he says that the muslims followed the ways of the jews and christians in going to excess regarding visiting the graves of the saints.
I was surprised to read this from shah waliullah.

DO you know anything about this??

i am sorry but i still don't get it. pardon me for being slow, but i will try to catch up:

    --------------------------------
according to you, the salafis say:

    1. yaghuth and ya'auq were taken as gods [by some people]

    2. according to salafis, the 'meaning' of 'taking gods' is that 'they took them as intercessors'

2a. or they took yaguth and ya'uq as intercessors and thus, gods.

2b. or taking someone as intercessor is taking someone as god [or al-ilah]

    3. they worship something other than Allah and say that they are our intercessors.

3a. taking intercessors is like worship something other than Allah.
    ---------------------------------
    and your refutation is:

    1. ilah means wajibu'l wujud

2.intercessor is mumkin al-wujud and not wajibu'l wujud

    3. therefore intercessors are not ilah

    4. because ilah is wajibu'l wujud

    ------------------------------------

correct me if i am wrong, but i don't understand how, any of this makes sense. let us examine the logic.

    1. let us say we prove al-ilah means wajibu'l wujud.

    2. the salafi argument is that: bringing in an intercessor is like considering them al-ilah.

    3. and only Allah ta'ala is al-ilah.

    4. since anyone other than Allah is mumkin

    5. and intercessors are OTHER than Allah

    6. therefore intercessors are considered as a claim to being wajib, a claim to being ilah.

    7. considering anyone else OTHER than Allah as wajib or ilah is shirk

    8. therefore taking intercessors is shirk or taking partners to Allah.

    ---------
    where is the slip here?

    1. you are proving that al-ilah is wajib

    2. but you are not disproving the claim: taking intercessors is making them partners with God.

    3. your argument that intercessors are mumkin and hence not ilah brings up these objections:
    - the idols are mumkin; and idols are TAKEN as al-ilah. the ACT of taking them as ilah is the crime; we do not dispute that the idols themselves are NOT ilah.

similarly, taking intercessors is like considering them ilah; the ACT of taking intercessors and thus taking them as ilah is a crime; we do not dispute that intercessors are not ilah.

the ayah: 'have you not seen him who has taken his desires as his god? [al-ilah] here, 'desires' are mumkin and the problem is in TAKING THEM AS ILAH. no muslim disputes that 'desires' are not ilah.
    ----
i hope i haven't confused you further. we can refute this argument thusly,

    1. intercession per se is NOT taking someone as ilah. [prove it otherwise and reconcile the different ayats]

    2. intercession mentioned in the verse is a different kind where beings other than Allah are worshipped and THIS WORSHIP is considered as intercession.

    3. we sunnis do not worship our intercessors. we worship Allah and ask Allah for the sake of [or intercession] of His beloved slaves.

    4. we do not consider our intercessors as ilah. period. no need to deduce anything.

    5. intercession is a form of du`a or supplication to the One and Only Ilah.

no one except a heretic denies shafa`ah; the mu'tazilis did it in the past. salafis of our time have collected all the worst elements of the heretics in the past - like khawarij they are extremists and blood-thirsty; like the mu'tazila they deny karamat, awliya and shafa'ah; like the ahlu't tajsim, they espouse the fitna of corporealism....

may Allah keep us safe from filth; Allahumma na'udhu bika mina'l khubthi wa'l khabayith.

Let me give you an Example:

71:23 "And they have said (to each other), 'Abandon not your gods: Abandon neither Wadd nor Suwa', neither Yaguth nor Ya'uq, nor Nasr';-

Now the claim is that the way they were taken as Gods is by using them as Intercessors to Allah.

    وَيَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مَا لاَ يَضُرُّهُمْ وَلاَ يَنفَعُهُمْ وَيَقُولُونَ هَـٰؤُلاۤءِ شُفَعَاؤُنَا عِندَ ٱللَّهِ قُلْ أَتُنَبِّئُونَ ٱللَّهَ بِمَا لاَ يَعْلَمُ فِي ٱلسَّمَاوَاتِ وَلاَ فِي ٱلأَرْضِ سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ }

10:18 And they worship besides Allah that which neither harms them nor does any good and say, 'these are our intercessors with Allah'. Say you, 'Do you tell to Allah the thing which is not in His Knowledge either in heavens or on earth. Holy is He and exalted is He from their association.

In Ayah 10:18 it is said they called those that they worshipped 'ilah' now my point is if it becomes established that ilah means Wajibul Wujud then they cannot claim that merely using them as Intercessors to Allah is making them 'ilah' for the fact that that using a Intercessor to Allah is enough to establish that the one being used as a Intercessor is Mumqin-ul-Wujud and not Wajibul-Wujud.

Do you understand what I'm saying or am I totaly of the track here?

The Prophet's Recommendation Allah bless and greet him - to Ibn `Abbas in Which He Describes the Habits A Believer Must Have With Allah Almighty

Al-Tirmidhi narrated from Ibn `Abbas - Allah be well-pleased with both of them! - that he said:

"I was [riding] behind the Prophet one day and he said to me: 'O my boy! I shall teach you certain words. Keep Allah [with you], and He shall keep you. Keep Allah [with you], and you shall find Him facing you. If you ask for something, ask Allah. If you seek help, seek it from Allah. Know with certainty that if the entire Community gather together to support you, they can benefit you nothing except in what Allah has foreordained for you; and if they gather together in order to harm you, they can harm you in nothing except in what Allah has foreordained against you. claim of people of bidah refuted:

SAYINGS OF MANY SUNNI SCHOLARS AGAINST SEEKING HELP FROM CREATION:

Is there any refrences for Ilah refering to Wajibul Wujud from the classical texts?

Because the Salafis refer to Ilah as a Diety that any worship, Supplication or devotion is attributed to.

So they try and claim that proclaiming statements such as Ya Rasoolallah Madad is making The Prophet Muhammad [Peace be upon him] Ilah, even if you do so with the belief that the Prophet Muhammad [Peace be upon him] is dependant on Allah and can only help with the help of Allah.

If we establish that Ilah refers to Wajibul Wujud then they dont have a leg to stand on :p
