the shaykh makes the point of us working all hours whereas our predecessors would open their shops until they had earned enough to make do, and then busy themselves in learning.

someone made the observation for here in the UK that this is one of the reasons that we have lost our youth, illa masha Allah.

we work 10 hours a day, 7 days a week. when do we spend time with our family?

mufakkir e islam, shaykh pirzada imdad husain, told us that a man should have his evening meal with his family and talk to them during it about their day etc. he described it as a good time to undertake this important responsibility in.

but, we start work at 12pm and our kids go to school at 8am; so we miss each other in the morning and we finish work at 10pm and our kids return home at 4pm, go to the masjid till 6pm and are in bed before we're home. we hardly see them. so, when do we do tarbiyah?

we don't all work long hours and 7 days a week but even when we aren't at work, our kids aren't home! and even if they are, there is minimal interaction. other times, they are out somewhere and more often than not, we don't know where or who with.

so, time management is of utmost importance. we underestimate it and only realise its value when it's too late.

the shaykh is truly an inheritor of prophetic wisdom. that is an excellent reminder.

slightly related is the new phenomenon of people being 'too busy being busy.' we just don't know how to prioritise and hence end up being busy all the time.

it's got to be down to the reason in the hadith of our master sallAllahu 'alaihi wasallam: i don't fear that my ummah will commit shirk but that you will become engrossed in wordly affairs.

may Allah save us from these tribulations.
