Remember in the jihadi-spoof movie 'Four Lions', when the character Barry made a suggestion to 'blow up the mosques' to 'rally up the moderates'?

Doesnt seem so funny now does it?

Most Money goes to the corrupt committee members and their Dr. Saab sons whom are also part of this elite cult. It is called the white collar crime; young committee members learning from the forefathers.

We will hold a weekly youth gathering invite Molvi edit mod [aqdas] Every one can take a selfie with Molvi Saab and post it on facebook and update facebook status. In a typical Mirpuri accent one would say Mojaan Maro!

Majority of the 'sadaqa' money goes to masjid (through jummah or other event driven collection). Then the committee members mis-spend (i.e. if they don't mis-appropriate it). Imams are paid a pittance, rest goes to unnecessarily refurbish/expand the mosques. My masjid has installed several new security cameras (probably useful), new air-conditioners (just to use them for 2-3 months in a year). Some amount is also spent in holding monthly ijtemas and organising langars. That said most langars are sponsored by individuals rather than the masjid having to spend specifically on that.

How many masajids publish audited accounts of expenses and income? Some that do, may not be giving the right account.

Majority of zakat money goes to home countries and charities. In some cases, Pirs are masajids and charities by themselves.

    6. charities - since the inception of noor tv, ummah channel etc. there has been a huge growth in new charities appearing. maybe they sense that a few live tv appeals per annum will get them by...

yes, spending money locally should be a priority. local funding FIRST for local projects, then for far away needs and that is the priority set by Allah's system.

you feed yourself and your children first, then your immediate neighbours and so on...

actually, that's my issue. I'm in the UK and I think it's about time our funding of madrasahs was done here too, not only abroad. perhaps an 80/20 split...

yes, of course, I agree that the pirs, na'at mahfils and all the associated extravagance has to stop and this will only be done through educating the youth. as aH said, the elders are bygones for the most part.

so, where else is sunni money wrongly or rightly going?

    1. na'at khawans pockets
    2. na'at mahfils
    3. pirs pockets
    4. ta'weez from pirs
    5. langar

if all Sunni money is rightly spent, we would not be lamenting the sorry state of affairs.

most of it is spent on celebrity fake pirs and celebrations. not on education, which gets a paltry sum. just ask a guy who literally throws money on naat khwaans and pirs, to spend money to publish a book. he will ask "can i give from zakaat?"

if just the amount that is spent on langars in the UK is saved, we can have a seminary built almost every month in Pakistan & India.

this is precisely the reason that in Pakistan alone, deo-bandis (and other wahabis) have 3 times more madrassahs than Sunnis do.

in a little rant last week at a meeting, I said that sunnis are spending all their money on na'at khwans and mahfils. a brother immediately disagreed and said it's not - rather it's going abroad.

so, where does sunni money go? we desperately need money for educational projects but it seems sunnis are funding other things.
