jalalayn: qabDah: that means that which is in His Power (maqbuDah); that is His Dominion and His Dispensation in His Kingdom as He Wills. (taSarruf) yaminihi: qudratihi - that is His Divine Power
qurtubi: 'the fist' qabDah actually is a metaphor that means His Absolute Power and that it encompasses everyone and everything. as they say: "that person is in my grip" [in urdu it would be: "woh meri muTThi meiN hai"] and that means "he is in my power". 'folding up' doesn't mean physical folding - rather a metaphor to indicate annihilation.
qurtubi says: after saying 'the heavens are folded and wrapped in His Power..' [literally: His right hand] he says: "sub'Hanahu wa ta'ala" declaring that He is transcendent from any similitude or anthropomorphic attributes. that is the words used are metaphors for Divine and Absolute Power. they don't mean that it is a hand. yes, we believe in the words "qabDah" or "yamin" just as it was revealed without translating its meaning like the anthropomorphic salafis of our time who translate it and INSIST that it is "hand". sub'Hanahu wa ta'ala
Al-Quran: Surah Zumar; Ayat 67. In Urdu: Aur unho ne ALLAH ki qadr nahi ki jaise ke uske karne ka haq tha, Qiyamat ke din Zameen ALLAH ke muttih (fist) me hogi aur Asmaan uske (Allah) ke dahne haat (right hand) me lipte honge, ALLAH paak hain osse jo ke ye oska shareek banaate hai". In English: " No just estimate Have they made of ALLAH, Such as he due to Him: On the day of judgment The whole of the earth will be but his handful, And the heavens will be rolled up in his right hand: Glory to him High is he above The partners they attribute to Him". Can anyone explain what Allah's hand here means ??? Jazakallah
